Georgia Briggs Obituary

Georgia Rose Briggs
February 9, 1931 - December 18, 2015
Our dear, sweet mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Georgia Rose Atwood Briggs, returned to our Heavenly Father and joined her eternal sweetheart on December 18, 2015.
Born on February 09, 1931, in Raymond, Alberta, Canada, the eighth of 17 children, to Nephi and Jessie Atwood. Georgia was raised mostly in Jaffray, British Columbia, Canada, on a sheep ranch where she learned at a young age to work hard. When her mother passed away, she left school to assist in caring for her father and younger siblings.
Georgia met Raymond Kay Briggs while he was serving a mission in Western Canada. After a short courtship, they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 30, 1952 and blessed with seven children. Their loving influence was felt by other family members and friends who temporarily resided with them.
As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Georgia served in many positions including Primary President, many teaching capacities, Young Women and Relief Society Presidencies. She also served as the Coordinator for the Lamanite Placement Program and raised several foster children in their home. Upon retirement, Kay and Georgia enjoyed serving a mission in Nauvoo, Illinois.
Georgia taught her children the value of hard work as they assisted with her cleaning and wedding businesses. She also drove school buses and cooked meals for the Rotary Club and other organizations. Later, she assisted in managing Cottonwood Cove Retirement Home for 12 years where she lovingly cared for the residents and many other elderly people.
Georgia is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Raymond Kay Briggs, her parents, (Nephi and Jessie Atwood), seven brothers (Lenard, Eldon, Raymond, Lindsey, Logan, Toby, and Max), two sisters (Nila Cook and Joyce Davies), and a son-in-law, Chris Kunz.
She is survived by her seven children, Debbie Kunz, Ronna (Jim) Grosscurth, Pam (Mike) Sanders, Leanne (Kim) Drew, Kevin (Cammie) Briggs, Robyn (Larry) Reaves, Leisa (Darin) Graham, 39 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren, four sisters (Irma, Verna, Della, and Jessie) and three brothers (Gordon, Weldon, and Rodger).
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the L.D.S. Highland Stake Center on Satterfield Drive with a viewing before the service at 9:30 a.m. Her burial will be in Archer, Idaho.

I want Georgia and Kaye's family to know that I was shocked to learn of their deaths. They came into my life while I lived in Pocatello, and were of tremendous help to me over several years; providing assistance with gardening, housekeeping, shopping, chauffeuring me around, and with so many other things. I was much older than them (I am 98 now),but they shared their love with me. I much appreciated their company and support while in the later years of my life in Pocatello. Since moving to Boise about a year and a half ago, where I now live closer to one of my sons, I have missed them greatly, although we still kept in touch with each other by phone. My sincere sympathy goes out to all of their close family and friends. We all know they were outstanding individuals. I will miss them dearly, but value the time we had together.

We loved your Mom! She's probably as busy hustling around in heaven as she was always here. She loved her family so much!
May peace come to all of you. Losing both Mom and Dad together will take some time to get used to. You've served them so well.
Wish we could have been at the funeral.
Our love and prayers to you all.
