On January 17th, 2016, Bernardo Yanci Elizondo's jovial heart took its last beat while in his home in Boise, ID.
Born on September 16, 1926, in Lesaka, Nafarroa. Bernardo was one of five children. He was an athlete and musician by nature. His charisma and beautiful skill with the accordion kept him firmly planted in the Basque community while migrating to the United States as a young man in 1951. After sheepherding in California and mastering the trade of bringing people together with both music and drink at the Star Hotel in Elko, Nevada, Bernardo met his life love Estefania Larrinaga Bilbao. In Elko, they raised three beautiful children: Stephanie, Ricardo, and Miren Begoña. Bernardo and Estefania eventually moved to Boise in 2007, where he continued to leave an unforgettable mark on so many hearts with his love for life, family, friends, music, dance, and without question, food. This brings full circle to how Bernardo left us, during a simple yet cherished act of cooking lunch for his adored family.
Please join us in celebrating Bernardo's life with a vigil at Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7pm. The funeral mass will be on Friday, Jan 22, 10 am at St. John's Cathedral followed by a reception at the Boise Basque Center.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Elko Euskaldunak Basque Club,1601 Flagview Drive, Elko, Nevada 89801, or the Boise Euzkaldunak, 601 Grove Street, Boise, Idaho 83702.
