Hillard Schrupp Obituary

Hillard Henry "Howie" Schrupp 1929 ~ 2011 Our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, Hillard Henry Schrupp, was taken to heaven on Thursday, September 15 2011, after 82 years of a wonderful life. Howie lived a fulfilled life, served in two branches of the military, raised an amazing family, traveled the world, built strong relationships everywhere he went, and left a legacy behind him. He took his grandchildren under his wing and raised them as his own. He showed them how to be strong, independent, and to love. He did the same for his children and friends. All who knew Howie were blessed. Howie was born in Carver County Minnesota, March 31, 1929. He left home at a young age to join the Marine Corps and served in Europe, Asia and the United States. He changed stripes to the Air Force and served 29 years in the military, retiring in 1974. During his tours of duty, Howie found time to hunt and fish for trophy game. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to compete with his friends. He also held a high average as a league bowler. Howie moved to Boise ID after retirement to live out the rest of his life and enjoy the mountains, rivers, and fields he loved so much. Howie always lived his life on his terms, doing what he loved to do, and sharing his stories with anyone who would listen. He was also passionate about growing his own crops and a dozen varieties of roses. He was married to his lifelong sweetheart Dorothy Schrupp in Truman Minnesota, and they had 54 happy years together. Dad was a staunch conservative and NRA member, and a very strong Christian in the Lutheran community. He fiercely protected his liberties as a patriot and American. Howie is survived by his children Neal, Michele and Van Zwettler, Ron and wife Tracy, eight siblings including Delores Schrupp, Orlin Schrupp, Frank and Vicki Schrupp, Shelby and Bob Balzum, Eugene and Joanne Schrupp, Douglas Schrupp, Sandy and Dave Sprengeler, Susan and Gary Maddern (IL), and Larry. Also, grandchildren Tyler, Nicole, Collette, and Brandon, great-granchildren Bailey, Kiley, Jack and Caden, and numerous nephews nieces and cousins. Howie was preceded in death by his lovely wife Dorothy, parents and brother Donaver. Howie is and will forever be loved and missed. He is at home with his Savior where he longed to be. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Monday, Sept 19th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Boise. Pastor Tim Pauls, Howie's dear friend, will officiate the memorial service. A reception will be held at the church following the service. Howie will be laid to rest at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 N. Horseshoe Bend Rd, Boise. Thankgiving 2011, We were so sorry to learn of Howie's death. He was a good friend that we loved dearly. We are grateful that we had the opportunity to meet this dear man and his wonderful wife Dorothy on Taiwan, to enjoy thier company, and to share in many, many good times on the island, in Maryland and in Boise. We will miss him. Howie, you picked a pretty hard way to get off of the hump roster. Much love, Dan and Roie Tuschak. PS: Would appreciate hearing from any Howie's beloved children. Call at any time @(210)691-1956.
