Robert McDonald Obituary

Robert J. McDonald
April 21, 1929 - November 9, 2014
Robert "Bob" McDonald, age 85, passed away on Sunday, November 9th at Overland Court Senior Living after a long and debilitating illness. He was born in Seattle, Wa to Mary and Robert McDonald.
Bob graduated from O'Dea HS in Seattle, lettering in basketball and baseball. After graduating from the College of Puget Sound in Tacoma, where he played college basketball and earned a degree in History, he taught high school history for two years before being drafted into the Marines for the Korean War, where he traveled with the Marine Corps basketball team. After two years, he was released from active duty, and then moved to Boise where he met his wife Byrdine. They were married two years later in Payette, Idaho. Bob worked at Stein Distributing and later retired from Coors Brewing Company in the mid 90's.
Bob and his wife Byrdine loved playing golf, and were on the golf course every chance they had. In retirement, Bob was Sargent at Arms at the statehouse in Boise for many years, and loved meeting new people. He was loved by all, and will be deeply missed.
Bob is survived by his sons John McDonald and Jim Dibble, his 4 grandchildren Lauren, Taylor, Abby and Ben, various Nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Myrna "Tootie" and her husband, Bernie Stohler. He is preceded in death by parents, wife Byrdine, and one sibling. The family wishes to thank his Stonebridge nurse Eileen Mitchell and all the wonderful Overland Court and hospice individuals for their care and compassion during his difficult journey to his heavenly home. Rest in peace Bob, we all love you so much.
Services will be held at 10:00 am, 17th Nov. at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Boise, followed by a graveside service at 1:00 pm at Evergreen Cemetery in Ontario. Condolences may be made at www.bowmanfuneral.com

Bob was such a kind and beautiful man. It was an honor to care for him and his dear Byrdine. He taught me so much, and I am a better person because of his examples of kindness. I was treated as family by John and Jim. I love you, my brothers. I am so grateful to know Bob and Byrdine are together again. I will miss Bob's big grin and kidding, but he will have a special place in my heart that keeps his memory near me.
