Randy Garmon Obituary

Randy Garmon KANNAPOLIS Randy Dale Garmon, 54, of Kannapolis, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at his home. Mr. Garmon was born on Sept. 21, 1956, in Cabarrus County and was educated in Ca-barrus County Schools. He worked as a residential and commercial painter for many years prior to his working as a maintenance supervisor for Wal-Mart for approximately 10 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Talbert Garmon Hunsucker; his step-father, Harry Eugene Hunsucker; his father, Coolidge Rankin Gar-mon; and his step-mother, Virgie Burleyson Garmon. He is survived by his son, Jerimy Phillip Gar-mon, of Concord; his daughter, Jennifer Hope Garmon, of Bristol, Tenn.; his former wife, Tierney Stirewalt, of Bristol, Tenn.; his sisters, Cathy Garmon Jewett and her husband, Steve, of Concord; Patti Hunsucker Winn and her husband, Sam, of Concord; Patricia Burleyson Rodgers and her husband, Horace, of Kannapolis; and Barbara Burleyson Cope of Lexington; her brothers, Tony Garmon, of Hickory; Billy Hunsucker and his wife, Patricia, of China Grove; and Sandy Bur-leyson, of Lexington. Other survivors include his grand-daughters, Ruby Garmon and Catherine Garmon; his nieces, Hannah Winn, Crystal Furr, and Jane Brady; and his nephews, Jacob Winn, B.J. Hunsucker, and Dale Furr. Mr. Garmon used his mechanical talent and ability to fix anything repairing and rebuilding motors and tools, especially lawnmowers. He loved being known as "lawnmower man" by his friends and neighbors. When he was not involved in this pastime, he was still outdoors enjoying the shade of his front and back yard trees often using his creativity and ingenuity, re-inventing ordinary objects giving them a new purpose. He was known as a helpful and kind neighbor and a good listener to many friends. He lived a simple and humble life, enjoying and appreciating the little things in life that made him happy. His daughter, Jennifer Garmon, has always appreciated his unique sense of humor and charisma along with his ability to be a personable and good listener, able to sit for hours and talk about any subject. His two grand-daughters, Ruby and Catherine Garmon, recall their favorite memories were when Pawpaw Randy taught them how to paint a room in his house and how to plant and grow tomatoes. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family meeting place will be at the home of Cathy and Steve Jewett at 712 Carson Court in Kannapolis. Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
