Harold Updike Obituary

Harold R. Updike, Jr. age 77, of Indianapolis, died on Tue., Oct. 5, 2010. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Aug. 16, 1933, the son of the late Harold Ritter, Sr. and Frieda Ann (Siegmund) Updike. He was reared and educated in Indianapolis where he graduated from Tech High School. Harold joined the United States Army as a Para trooper and served for three years. Mr. Updike was married on March 30, 1972 to Marian Frances (Waldmann) Updike in Indianapolis. Mrs. Updike died on March 26, 2000. For thirty-one years, he worked for Indiana Bell as a supervisor. Mr. Updike was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed his family and their activities. His memberships include: Past Master Hosbrook Lodge 473 - F. &A.M., New Augusta, IN, Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, Murat Shriners of Indianapolis, Past Patron of Eastern Star. A Memorial Graveside Service with Military and Masonic rites will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 11, 2010 at Washington Park North Cemetery in Indianapolis. Survivors include his four children, Debra L. (Gregory) Stoebick of Fishers, IN, Karen S. (Russell) Vogel of Lebanon, IN, James H. (Norma) Updike of Redondo Beach, CA, and Scott A. (Kazuko) Updike of Murrieta, CA; two step-children, Michael G. (Kris) Wellin of Indianapolis and Karen L. (Billy) Reno of New Castle, IN; thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam M. Stoebick; and a step-son, Bryan A. Wellin. Memorials may be made to the Susan G.
