I first knew of Phil as a cigarette-smoking, motorcycle-riding philosopher prince – mysterious, a bit scary, and oh, so handsome. Then, from across the aisle in typing class, I learned that he was not so fearsome, but actually quite charming and fun. I soon came to appreciate his intelligence and his strong and principled beliefs. Eventually he traded his motorcycle for a VW Beetle that we took on dates and, in 1970, we took to Canada. It turned out that his principles were not just theories, but he had the courage to take action on them whatever the cost might be. I'm still here in Canada, a teacher now myself, and am grateful for Phil's contribution to my life. I enjoyed being part of the Burchett family – if only briefly – and have fond memories of the family singing The 12 Days of Christmas together and enjoying Mrs. B's delicious hand-mixed chocolate cakes.

Mrs. Burchett, I had no idea that Phil had passed. I am so sorry. He was a wonderful person and so very smart and talented. I've always had a special place in my heart for you and for him since we met in high school. My prayers are with both of you.

My sympathy to Dorothy and the entire Burchett family. I've heard stories about Phil and knew he had wonderful cooking skills. At least he is not in pain any longer. And if he is as good a card player as everyone says, I do know there are a few people "up there" who will give him a challenge at the card table. Rest in peace Phil.

I remember being beat EVERY time I played Euchre, Sequence or any other board game with Uncle Phil. I enjoyed many holiday and family meals prepared by Uncle Phil. He was truly a very bright and generous man. I am very blessed to have known him. I am proud to be a part of the Burchett family. My love and prayers to the siblings, my mother and grandma.
