Paterno O. Obado

PATERNO O. OBADO (1920-2003) With Peace and Joy, Paterno was joined with our Lord on April 22, 2003. Paterno O. Obado was born on February 12, 1920, in Sarrat, Llocos Norte, Philippine Islands, the third child of the late Elias Obado and Felicissima Balicanpa Obado. From 1943-1946, he proudly served as a sergeant in the Philippine Commonwealth Army, including the recognized guerrillas in the service of the United States Army Forces in the Far East under the Commanding General Douglas MacArthur during World War II. He was a bus driver and long time government employee of the Philippine National Railways and Benguet Auto Line prior to his immigration to the United States of America in 1974. He worked as a driver for Goodwill Industries until his retirement. Although he seemed to many to be a modest and reserved man, he enjoyed attending regular church services and going to the Saint Mary's Senior Citizen Center in Oakland. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of forty three years, Rosa Ver Obado. He is survived by his five children and their families: Franklin and Caridad Aquino of Oakland, Teotimo Constante Obado of Oakland, Apolinar and Kathy Obado of Fremont, Isagani Felipe and Rizalina Obado of Manila, Philippines and, Gerion and Nimfa Obado of Bawang, La Union, Philippines. His grandchildren include Mary Ann, Ruth, Joann, Maricris, Cristel, Amelia, Donnalyn, Rhea, Homer, Nimfa Marie, Jennifer Rose, and Brandon. He leaves many cousins, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Visitation Sunday, May 11, 2003 at noon-4pm followed by a Vigil at 4pm, at COLONIAL CHAPEL 2626, High St., Oakland, CA. Funeral Liturgy 10am on Monday, May 12, 2003 at St. Lawrence/St. Cyrils Church 3725 High St., Oakland, Ca. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery Oakland.
