Garland Slagle Obituary

Garland "Doc" L. Slagle Doc L. Slagle, 81, of Moss Creek Plantation in Hilton Head, SC passed away suddenly and peacefully in his home on Saturday, May 28th, 2016. Doc was a dentist who enjoyed and embraced his profession and was still actively practicing dentistry at the time of his passing. He graduated from Medical College of Virginia Dental School and started his dental career back in Hopewell, VA where he was born and raised. He soon fell in love with the Outer Banks of NC where he began to spend much of his leisure time starting back in the 1960's. He and his family moved to Cape Hatteras where he was a pioneer in bringing dental health care to the remote barrier island. He lived and practiced dentistry in Cape Hatteras for 15 years before permanently locating to the Hilton Head area in 1997. Doc was an avid golfer who enjoyed his Moss Creek golfing community and friends. He was a talented artist who excelled in the mediums of oil painting and copper sculpting. He had a strong passion for salt water fishing and being along the coast. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Leota "Lee" Slagle, son Mead Slagle, future daughter-in-law Cami Gray, and grandchildren Ashton Slagle and Carlee Slagle. A celebration of life will be held at Moss Creek Clubhouse on Saturday, June 4th at 5pm. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory. theislandfuneralhome.com.
