Connie Hooker Obituary
Connie Sue Hooker, 54 of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017. Connie was born on October 29, 1962, daughter of George W. Hooker and Carrie J. Hooker.
Connie was very active in her younger life, always finding ways to serve while still in school. She babysat children of the neighborhood where she lived and also babysat her nephew, James and nieces, Aubrey, Angel, Jamie, and Carrie Ann. After graduation in 1981 from Lafayette Jefferson High School, she went to work at Crown Laundry, 2 weeks later she went to work for Indiana Veterans Home for over 25 years. While still working for the Veterans Home, she still took time to watch children. Shortly after becoming ill and unable to work, she moved to Elmwood house, where she enjoyed watching Dancing with the Stars and playing cards. She and a few at the home decided to start a Euchre tournament, which she enjoyed very much.
Surviving is her father, George Hooker, step-mother, Barbara Shumaker, brother, Michael W. Hooker, sister, Linda J. Cheesman, step-brothers, Perry, Mark and Greg Shumaker of Lafayette, and step-sister, Pam Vanderkoke. Also surviving, uncle, Wayne (wife: Cathy) Hooker, aunts, Lee Joyce, Turnage (husband: Livill), Mable Rogers, Lynn (husband: Kenneth) of Arkansas, and Janice Toll of Arkansas.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Carrie J. Hooker, one brother, Preston Hooker, one niece, Jamie Sue Cheesman.
Services will be Tuesday, May 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior at Simplicity Funeral Care. Final interment to be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens (West Lafayette, IN). I worked with Connie for many years at IVH, she was one of the most caring and compassionate person I have ever worked with. She truly gave her best to her patients.
