Doris Shepard Obituary
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday afternoon at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville with the Rev. Drew Parker officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Mrs. Shepard is survived by her son, Marty Shepard and his wife Karen of Jacksonville; daughter, Gaye Gillette and her husband Kenny of Hubert; two brothers, Ernest "Alwood" Gurganus of Sneads Ferry and Bobby G. Gurganus of Jacksonville; sister, Carolyn Godwin of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Deanna Riley and husband James, Evan Shepard and wife Britta, Matthew Gillette and Daniel Gillette; one great-grandchild, Haidynn Riley; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Shepard was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Shepard; and her parents, Ernest Gurganus and Elizabeth McLean Gurganus.
The family would like to send a special thanks to caregivers, Martha Rochelle and Grace Brown.
Memorials may be made to Harris Creek Baptist Church, 660 Holly Shelter Road, Jacksonville, NC 28540.

Gaye, Marty & Family, the service was so special. The poem was a wonderful tribute to Mrs. Doris & Mr. Thurmon. May God continue to bless all of you in the days ahead. You all will have special memories to cherish of what true parents are. Love & prayers,

We are saddened when we learn about your Mom's death. Also, she was such as a wonderful Aunt to us. We can't image how painful it is for you, but don't forget that we'll always be there to console you. We will never forget her. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.
