Heinz Erwin Saur

Heinz Erwin Saur, 77, of Vernon, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, in his residence.

Born Sept. 10, 1933, in Augsburg, Germany, Heinz came to the United States in the early 1960s to pursue greater opportunities for his family. He became a skilled machinist, specializing in aircraft engine parts and later opened his own business, Metric Inc. in 1972. Heinz was proud of his German heritage and held memberships in clubs, including the Saengerbund and the Hartford Liederkranz. In his leisure, he greatly enjoyed hunting with his brother, Tony.

Heinz leaves a daughter, Ingrid P. Saur of Bolton; a daughter-in-law and caregiver, Teresa Saur of Vernon; a sister, Anneliese Swartz of Carlsbad, Calif.; three grandchildren, Christopher, Troy, and Bridget Saur; and loving significant other, Anne Picard of South Windsor. He was predeceased by his wife, Rosemarie (Konzman) Saur; a son, Ernst G. (Ernie) Saur; two brothers, Ernst A. Saur and Tony Saur; and a sister, Rosa Fassnacht.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Road, in South Windsor, with interment following at Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. There will be no public calling hours.
