I am so sorry for your loss. I remember your Dad when he was a banjo and guitar player at John Ernst Cafe. My father was a long time waiter there and I remember working as a busboy with my Dad and listening to the great music he and Wally (last name?) the bass player made. I hear songs to this day that they played there and I remember how great they were. The occasional guest musicians that would join them like Pete Fountain and others. ( Seemed that if they were there for dinner that their instruments were never that far away..)
Now that the years have passed I truly credit my love of the standards to the impression that your Dad had on me.
Rest in Peace Bob

My sister sent me the obituary regarding Bob's passing. I am so sorry for your loss.
I took lessons from him (late 60's to early 70's) at Uncle Bob's Music shop in the attic room when they were by Capital Court.
Fond memories abound from those days. When he would score a song for me to learn (sitting to my left), he would doodle parts of the song on a Gibson ES-335 dot - flipping it over on his lap to notate on lined paper using the back of the guitar as a desk. The guitar would be flipped back and forth to noodle on , then to be used as a desk and so on. I still have some of those songs. I remember that like it was last week.
I have been teaching at Freedom High School for 32 years. I run the Guitar Club at school where we have instruction and performances, so your dad's influence will continue to be felt and passed on for a long, long time.

What a great musician and an even greater guy! Not only was I privileged to be one of his students, way back when, but he remained a friend of the family for nearly 40 years. He will be dearly missed but NEVER forgotten!
