Robert Hurley Obituary

Life-long Juneau resident, "Bob" Hurley passed away suddenly on November 3, 2016. Bob was born at St. Ann's Hospital to Dorothy and Robert Hurley and raised on what is known as "Telephone Hill". He graduated Juneau-Douglas High School in 1965 and continued his education at the University of Portland and graduated in 1969. Upon completion of his college years he returned to Juneau to continue work in the family owned and operated telephone business. Bob continued with the phone business through several sales and retired in 1996. Bob is survived by his wife, Donna (Marks) Hurley of Juneau; daughter, Seanna (Steve) Kringen of Aptos, California; son, Robert (Lily) Hurley of Vienna, VA; Grandchildren Bryan Allen, Leci, and Brandyn Kringen of Aptos, CA. Soraya Hurley of Vienna and Chevelle Hogan of Juneau. Brother Lee (Dorothy) of Juneau; nephews and nieces Adam (Michelle) Zenger, Annie (Bill) Rosky; Melissa (Carl Marvin III) Hurley, Caroline (Casey) Walker. Great nieces and nephews Stiles Hurley and Isiah Marvin, Carter, Callen, & Colson Walker. Cousin Coralie Grenhow of Spokane. Extended family members include Granddaughters Kaitlayn Anderson (partner Gorge Padron) and Jerrica Razpotnik; Great-grandsons Zachariah Anderson-Katzeek, Mason James Anderson, and Great Granddaughter, Hailey Rae Padron all of Juneau.
Bob was deeply involved with his community as a Juneau Volunteer Fireman, a member of Juneau Glacier Valley Rotary, co-chairing the annual boat show for many years, achieved a Paul Harris Fellowship through the Rotary Foundation; served on the Juneau Docks & Harbor Board from 1993 - 2004. Bob was also a generous supporter of REACH, Inc., Catholic Community Services, Covenant House, and Family Promise. Fraternal Memberships included Elks Lodge 700, Eagles, and the Moose 700 Family Center, and Mendenhall Flying Lions. His greatest joys in life were his family, friends and fishing on his boat the "Sunmore".
There will be a ringing of the bell at the Downtown Juneau Fire station at 12N on March 17th. The Family will hold a private Prayer Service and Blessing of Ashes on March 18th at 11AM at the Columbarium at St. Teresa's Shrine. A Celebration of Life will be follow at the Moose Family Center on March 18th at 3 PM. All who knew Bob are invited.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made be made in his name to Catholic Community Services, Family Promise, or REACH, Inc.

Bob was a good neighbor when we lived on Distin Ave. in the '70s and '80's and I enjoyed our brief encounters whenever we saw each other in town. He was a good man and my sympathy is with his whole family. Special condolences to Seanna and Rob who grew up with my children on Distin.
