William Everett Thompson M.D.

Thompson, MD, William Everett, 81, retired ophthalmologist, passed away Oct. 5, 2011. He was born Oct. 1, 1930 in Chadron, NE to Euterpe and Jessie Thompson. His parents and a sister, Peggy Jeanne Merrick preceded him in death. He grew up in Chadron, NE and graduated from University of Nebraska Medical School. He served in the US Navy. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Univ. of Nebraska and began practicing in Wichita in 1960. They moved to Albany, NY in 1975 where he completed a pediatric ophthalmology fellowship at Union Medical College and remained on the teaching staff for several years prior to moving back to Wichita in 1984. He retired from practice in 2000. He enjoyed going out to breakfast, watching Nebraska football, going to Norwich eight man football games, golfing, putting jigsaw puzzles together and was an avid reader. He enjoyed traveling and seldom met a stranger. He was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Judith, sons Ted (Kathy) of Hot Springs, AR, Paul (Kathy) of Tully, NY, and daughter Cindy Ott (Rick) of Greeley, CO.; grandchildren, Ben Thompson (Jessica), Sarah Thompson, Paul Ott, Nathan Ott, and Austin Thompson. Memorial services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church Monday Oct. 10, 2011 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church or Project Hope Foodbank, P.O.
