I just now learned of his passing. Dr. Jimmy Johnson crossed my path as an honors seminar mentor and professor of cultural anthropology at Penn Valley Community College. A great man. An inspiration. His genuine nature, high expectations, willingness to: mentor, coach, develop, and nurture excellence in young people's and adults alike, even when you didn't see that excellence in yourself. His beatnik vibe, ability to code switch and willingness to frame taboo and controversial social topics in an open, tactful, sincere and constructive discussion fostered in me the skills and audacity to do the same. I am a better person for knowing him.

My dear friend, my buddy....I will miss PJ immensely. I feel very honored to not only have known him but to have been his friend for 7 years. My life has been blessed so much to have been able to call him my friend. Rest now PJ and know that you will never be forgotten.

I am grateful for the life of Mr. Johnson. Thanks to his service and to the service of others in our armed forces, my family and I have been able to lead our lives in freedom and peace.

Jimmy brought history to life. He has sparked my interest in family genealogy. He was a true educator. Condolences to the family and friends. He will be missed.
