Coach Motley was more than a coach to me, he was like a second father. He scouted me for the Kansas City Royals, but at the time, I was in Southeast Asia doing my duty. Larry Smith, center fielder for Mrs. Meeks and Milgram, 1965-1973.

Coach Motley was a great man. I am proud that I was the first white player Coach Motley when he asked me to play for his American Legion Team back in 1956. I was playing for De La Salle High School then and it began a life long relationship with Coach. I loved this man and I last saw him at the retirement party for Milgrams we exchanged several e-mails since. I was doing a search for Coach and came across this announcement at this time last year I was undergoing intense chemo and miss the article. I am so sad to miss my coach and friends funeral . Coach Don was a model and friend most of my life.

I can not really put in words the impact that Mr. Motley had upon my life. The best word I can use to describe the Mr. Motley I knew would be "consistent". From the implementation of the "Bat a Kid In" program to coaching in the Ban Johnson he was always "CONSISTENT". While saddened to hear of his transition from this life to glory, he will always be remembered in my mind, spirit and heart.
