ST. CHARLES – Eugene Francis "Gene" Corbin, 91, of St. Charles, passed away Monday May 2, 2011, at Rosewood Care Center in St. Charles.

He was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Chicago, the son of Eugene and Hulda Corbin. He grew up in Springfield.

Gene served in the Air Force during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. After being discharged from military service, he was a drummer for the popular Stan Kenton Band. He later worked for the railroad and then made a career with Illinois Bell where he retired as a vice president. After his retirement, he and his wife Peggy opened Gene's Side Door, a popular Geneva restaurant during the 1970s.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, Eugene Ryan; two nieces, Patty Ryan Fouts and Mary Kay Schneider; and two nephews, James Ryan and Michael Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite "Peggy" (Ryan).

Visitation will be held Friday, May 6, 2011, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m. at the Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State St. (Route 38), Geneva.

Burial will follow at Prairie Cemetery in St. Charles.

Memorials to the Anderson Animal Shelter, 1000 S. LaFox Road, South Elgin, IL 60177 would be appreciated.
