May my nephew"s memory never grow dim. His memory is greatly magnified by his outstanding character and love for family and fellow warriors. This reflects greatly upon his family and upbringing. I'll see you in heaven James. You're a hero to your family and all who know you.
Love,

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

My prayers are with this brave young mans family. I believe I met them at the airport this week as they were flying out of louisville KY. If it was not them then let me say that I am so sorry for your loss. I do understand your pain. My son was killed in Feb. 2010 in Afghanistan. He was laid to rest in Louisville. The family of the Army is big, let them help you. Please reach out to TAPS. It is an organization that offers grief counseling amoung other things. Go to their website. my personal email is [email protected] if you need to talk.

I went to AIT with him in 2003. He was one of the most motivated soldiers I ever came across. The last time I saw him was after he graduated. I have forgot a lot of soldiers over the years. I never forgot him though.

JP was my best friend. We went to journalism school together at DINFOS and remained friends for the last 7 years. Don't ever forget the name James Hunter. His light was so bright, his love so deep and his heroism beyond description. This loss is an incredibly painful one for his friends and particularly his family. I love you and always will Jimmy P. You will always be my hero.

Today, 09 July 2010, the Defense Information School, Fort Meade, MD, places a plaque that bears the name of SSG James P. Hunter on our Wall of Heroes.
This wall is designed to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in a public affairs or visual information job specialty in combat.

I served with SSG Hunter in OIF 07-09, I am blessed to call him a friend and a comrade! He was a good man and a good soldier! He was always willing to go out of his way to help people out! When I heard the news of his death it struck me very hard, I can honestly say just thinking of his face or the last time I talked to him or any memories of Hunter brings me to tears! It's hard to handle a loss like this! He will be missed, by many!!! With his job as the 2BCT PAO, he worked with so many different soldiers and everyone who knew him liked him!! He was just an all around good guy! Easy going and easy to talk to!! I am so sorry to all the family of SSG Hunter! My thoughts and prayers are with you all! There are no words that will make this pain go away, the loss of a loved one killed in action, but for what it is worth SSG Hunter is a hero and my son will always know his name, and he will never be forgotten!!! R.I.P SSG Hunter, We all love and miss you our friend!!

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. James will never be forgotten.
For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .
I Salute You.

A soldier is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to their country for an amount up to, and including, their life!
Thank you for writting this check. Thank you for giving up your life so that I may have FREEDOM. Rest in peace.
TO his family:
May Good bless and keep you during this time of sorrow.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms James Hunter. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for James. And to James it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. James, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,353 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to James’ family and loved ones.
