Edward Scrivner Obituary

SCRIVNER Edward Irvine, Jr. DMD, cherished husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather of Lexington, KY died December 25, 2016 at the age of 86. Irvine was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Bobby. He was born in Lexington, KY to Edward Irvine Scrivner and Eva Congleton Scrivner, graduated from Henry Clay HS, The University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville College of Dentistry with the highest academic honors ever attained at the time. He then served in the American Dental Corps of the United States Armed Services (1955-57) and was discharged with the rank of captain. He returned to Lexington where he practiced general dentistry for 44 years until his retirement in 1999. Irvine was an adjunct professor of dentistry at the UK College of Dentistry for 12 years. He owned and piloted his own aircrafts for many years and served on the Board of Directors of Bluegrass Field and the Georgetown-Scott County Airport. A great lover of the outdoors, he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer, sports which he enjoyed with many dear friends. He was a member and past president of the Lexington Rotary Club and received the President's Cup for outstanding service. He served on the board of Lexington Y.M.C.A and was chairman of The Citizens Transportation Committee of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. He was a member of the American Dental Society, KY Dental Society, Bluegrass Dental Society, the American Academy of Gnathologic Orthopedics which he served as president and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Survivors include daughters Pam Wade (Tommy) of Tuscaloosa, AL and Betsy Hager of Lexington, KY; Grandchildren Annie Stilz (Hillel Soifer) of Pennington, NJ; Coley Stilz (Lizzie) of Lexington, KY; Elizabeth Wade (Colin Rafferty) of Richmond, VA; Rebecca Lewis (Andrew) of Tuscaloosa, AL; Phillip Hager (Lana) of Lexington, KY; Hunter Hager of NY, NY; Claire Hager (fianc‚ Thomas Richards) of Lexington, KY; 5 great grandchildren and his sister Betty Jane Pless of Portland, OR. He was also predeceased by daughter Lynn Stilz and grandson Austin Wade. A memorial service will be conducted at 2pm Friday, December 30 at Central Christian Church. After the service, the family will receive friends at the church. In lieu of flowers the family would like to request memorial contributions be sent to The Aviation Museum of Kentucky, 4029 Airport Road, Lexington, KY 40510, Central Christian Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
