What a great lady. It was such a pleasure to get to know Joy at the UK Children's Hospital. Her energy, commitment and exuberance were contagious and she was an inspiration to us all. My thoughts and prayers are with Rusty and the rest of the family. Thank you, Joy, for everything.

Mr. Hembree and Joy,
I had the priviledge of working with Joy and getting to know her thru Woman's Club. About 32 years ago, we were getting ready to adopt our daughter and Joy told me that I would never see an ugly adopted child. Each time I saw her, she ask me if I had and of course, I al-ways said no. We shared many stories about our special daughters.
My sympathy to both of you and I will always remeber her smile and the many good things she did not only for Lexington but for our state.

Rusty, you and Joy were faithful Broadway members when you lived in Louisville. We loved you both then, and we share the sadness of so many in her loss.

I was out of town in Cincy with my Dad who was undergoing several heart procedures ( which as I am writing turned out successful )Our Board Chair Reed Polk had left me a message...late afternoon ...Joy has always been a mentor to me ..I was in the 5th Leadership Lexington program which she started and that was her final year (1983) ....Since then we have been great friends I always called her my 2nd Mom and we kept a regular lunch date...our last was a Christmas lunch at Greentree's Tea room which I know she enjoyed. She has had a tremendous impact on my life and I will miss her terribly as will the community she helped to build
