Roy Huffaker Obituary

HUFFAKER, ROY LARRY (R.L) (DINOSAUR) - age 72 of Knoxville passed away in the morning hours of Tuesday, October 5, 2010 in his sleep at the family home in Old North Knoxville. For many years a neuromuscular disorder challenged R.L. when trying to move as his body intended. In spite of this, R.L. never gave up. His stubborn streak served him well. R.L. had a keen mind, a terrific sense of humor, and a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. He was an avid reader, a formidable foe in canasta and chess as well as being a gardener extraordinaire. He loved a good argument, especially if it involved politics. R.L. was a Christian, a man of integrity and an example of good character for all who knew him. R.L. was the eldest of nine children born to Ruth and Roy Huffaker. He was preceded in death by parents; brother, Fred Huffaker; sister Leak Huffaker; nephew, Jason Huffaker. He is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law; B.J. Huffaker, Benny Marvin (Butch) and Liz, John and Frances, Robert and Janet, James and Shelia, Alfred and Gayla, Rufus and Pam. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, an uncle, two aunts, and several cousins. R.L. was loving cared for by Rufus, Pam and their sons Tyler and Travis, enabling him in his home. The family and friends will meet at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel on Friday, October, 8, 2010, at 4:00 pm to go in procession to Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 4:30 pm graveside service with Rev. Laura Rasor officiating. Online Condolences may be extended at www.rosemortuary.com. The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:30 pm on Thursday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

To RL's Family:
I have so many fond memories of the good times I shared with RL that I wouldn't know where to start to describe them. From Youth Group activities at Fourth Presbyterian Church to many hunting and fishing trips, we always had a good time together. I know he will be missed by all who knew him, certainly by me.

To my beloved cousins:
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I can imagine that party in heaven right now; RL being the center of attention. Know that you are always in my thoughts and forever in my heart.

I spent many nights from the time I was ten until I graduated high school at Fulton and left for the Navy with RL. Watching TV, listening to Olviia Newton John, the Knoxville Grass... lifting weights... RL was my mentor when I played football... he encouraged me... RL was my best friend in my youth and helped me become the man I am today... he was my hero in many ways... I will miss him... Michael Smith
