Robert Kasprzak Obituary

Dr. Robert Carlton Kasprzak

Knoxville, TN

On January 27th, 2018, Dr. Robert Carlton Kasprzak D.O. 65, from Knoxville, TN went home to be with the Lord for eternity after suffering from a long term illness. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Born Dec. 5, 1952 in Melrose, Massachusetts to Chesley and Gertrude Kasprzak, where he lived his childhood years and graduated from Melrose High School in 1970. He attended Bates College in Lewiston, ME, graduating with his B.S. in Biology in 1974. He continued his graduate school education at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in 1979. It was while he was attending medical school where he met the love of his life, Jean Bleile in February of 1977. They were married June 17,1978 in Philadelphia. He continued his post grad internship training in Family Practice Medicine in Portland, ME at Portland Osteopathic Hospital. In 1980 he joined the U.S. Public Health Service as a Naval Officer and was stationed in Southwest Florida, serving the migrant population. After completing his service commitment in 1982 he joined a Family Practice at Myerlee Medical Association in Ft. Myers, FL for the next 11 years. He returned to work in 1993 with migrant and indigent population clinic at the Family Health Center in Ft. Myers, FL until 1996. In 1996, Dr. Kasprzak and his family relocated to Knoxville, TN where he joined a medical practice with Family Care Specialists. He completed his practice years there until he retired in 2016 due to his illness. He practiced medicine as his ministry in life, as was demonstrated by his great compassion and care for his patients. He vowed to never lose his personal touch and art of medicine, despite the ever changing health care system. Having a heart for the underserved and medically needy, he served on short-term foreign medical mission teams during his years of practice. It was his heart`s desire to continue serving in medical missions together with his wife Jean, a nurse, in the later years of their lives. He was also an associate professor at Southwest Florida Osteopathic Medical School and Lincoln Memorial Osteopathic Medical School training students in clinical practice. He had a desire to pass on his philosophy and experience to the next generation. Bob had a strong faith and servants heart among his Church family for children`s, youth, and men`s ministry. He was a member of Christ Covenant Church in Farragut, TN since 1999 and formerly Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church. He was also a member for 16 years at Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Cape Coral, FL. He loved studying scripture and sharing his heart and knowledge with his family, friends and patients. He loved the outdoors, tending to his flowers and garden. Fishing the waters of Maine and Florida to the lakes and rivers of East Tennessee were among some of the best adventures of his life. Fellowship while fishing with his children and special friends became very important to him in his later years.

He was an avid sports fan coming from a large athletic family of four brothers. He participated in basketball, track and later rugby. His New England heritage followed him everywhere he went giving him a love for the Boston Celtics, Red Sox, and New England Patriots. However, moving to Knoxville, he became a great fan of the UT Sports. GO VOLS!

His first and greatest job in his life was serving his growing family. He was a loving and supportive husband and saw each of his four children as true gifts from God. He spent any time away from his profession attending school and sporting events for his children, assisting with their academic studies, and helping in their church youth events. He also loved cooking his incredible Saturday morning breakfasts for his whole family. He gave them counsel as young adults and prayed fervently for them all the days of his life. His family was greatly loved to the end! He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-nine and a half years, Jean Bleile Kasprzak, his four children, David, Adam(wife Rachael Hawkins Kasprzak), Kaitlin Kasprzak Cowan (husband Nicholas Cowan), Jonathan Kasprzak. His three big brothers, Michael Kasprzak (wife Dee), Chet Kasprzak (wife Marilyn), Tom Kasprzak (wife Terry) and several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He had many cherished friends throughout his life. Family will receive friends 5-7pm Friday at Christ Covenant Church with a service to celebrate Bob's life to immediately follow. Burial will be 12 noon on Saturday at Pleasant Forest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers we suggest donations to the American Cancer Society or Christ Covenant Church Local and World Missions Fund at WWW.Christcov.org in honor of Bob Kasprzak

Dr.Kasprzak was a very wonderful doctor. He took great care of my husband for over 19 years, if there every was an angel here on earth then that was Dr.K,, that's what me and my husband called him. We miss and will always love and have Dr.K in our hearts also along with his family. When Dr. K passed away God needed another angel so that's why God took Dr. K home with God in Heaven!! With much love and sympathy David J.and Kathy S. Tallent.

He was my doctor for many years at family care associates. I'm the one he caught the heart disease in time and saved my life by giving me a test that got me a quad bypass. He was a great man and doctor who I am sure I will see again. Treatment stopped abruptly and no one at family care explained why he stopped seeing patients. Now I Know and I am deeply sorry for the belated condolences.

Please accept my sincere condolences concerning Bob's death. Jean, I hope you and the kids are making it through this difficult time. I remember your first date with Bob in Philadelphia ; a day that changed his life forever for the good. Bob changed my life forever for the good too when I met him long ago at Bates College. We were roommates two years at Bates and then 2 further years in Medical School. He mentored me and was the older brother I needed but never had. While after Medical School we went our own ways in life, I have always known where he was. I have no doubt no matter where he was he left a positive imprint and legacy. He was just that kind of person. When you add that to his medical training and prowess you define what it means to be a Physician, not to mention a great person. A little part of him lives on in all of us who were influenced by him, which is a great thing. Love to all, I am thinking of you.

To The Kasprzak Family

Dr. Kasprzak was a gifted a doctor and a true child of God. This was apparent in the way he treated his patients and all who knew him. He became my doctor over 20 years ago and my husband's doctor until his passing in 2005. We prayed together and he encouraged me so much after my husband's death. But I know I can rest assured that I will see my husband and Dr. Kasprzak in heaven one day. May God continue to keep his loving arms around the family during and beyond this difficult time.

Sincerely,

George & Shirley Appling

Jean and family, I am so sorry for your loss. If we remembered everyday that we could lose someone at any moment, we would love them more fiercely and freely, and without fear - not because there is nothing to lose, but because everything can be lost. I love you Jean, if you need to talk, just call me ok. ~Crystal (your co-worker and friend)

I am so sorry to hear about Dr. Kasprzak's passing. I had the great honor and privilege to work with him at Family Care Specialists from 2011-2014. I remember how he always went above and beyond for both his patients, and his coworkers. I remember one night in particular when myself and another coworker were closing, and we had to stay late. Everyone else had already left, and Dr. K had no patients left, but rather than going home, he stayed over late, just to make sure we left from the building and got to our cars safely. That's just the kind of person he was. I remember other times it would be closing time, but someone might show up to the clinic right at close. He never turned anyone away, even if it meant he had to stay over late. I just always remember him going above and beyond to help anyone that he could. I am truly sorry for the loss of such a wonderful man. The family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so glad to know that Dr. K has joyfully and eagerly passed from this life into another life that is more amazing that he could ever imagine! He was our family doctor for 20 years, and saw our family through so many happy and sad times. He examined us, talked with us, and patiently listened to us talk. He even put his arms around our shoulders and prayed with us. He especially affected my oldest daughter, who was a heroin addict. She was imprisoned for four years, and after she recovered, moved to Kentucky. When she did, she said, I don't know what I will do because I won't be able to see Dr. Kasprzak anymore! I guess I'll just have to drive down every time I get sick! No doctor could ever replace him. She is now finishing her own doctorate in neurological social work with opioid addicts, helping them as he helped her. We could always count on Dr. K to call us after hours to check on how we were doing. Once, he alerted me by phone only a couple of hours after I left his office to alert me about something he had seen on my x-ray: that my stomach had become misshaped. It turned out I needed a six-hour operation to relocate it. If it had not been for Dr. Kasprzak's diligence, they said I would have died within a few days. How we love him! He is one of the people I will enjoy seeing again in eternity!
