Albert Tankersley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 22, 2008.
TANKERSLEY-Albert Stanley Tankersley, age 84, of Monrovia, California, went home to the Lord on Friday morning, April 18, 2008. Stan, as he was known to family and friends, was born on March 27, 1924, in Rosewell, New Mexico. He served with distinction in the Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict, followed by a lengthy career in education in the San Gabriel Valley area. He retired 24 years ago and began to devote more of his time to church work and to Christ ian relief projects in Mexico. Stan maintained a very active community involvement as a leader in the Monrovia Methodist Church, Lay Witness Missions, Christian Ashram and Prayer and Healing Conferences. He was also a Past Master of the Foothill Lodge #308 of Monrovia. His love of music and skill with the guitar found a role in his work, his worship and his recreation. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Harriet Claire Tankersley, and by their six children: Dorothy Dresser of Tennessee, Mary Carol Adams of Yuba City, Beth Anne Yates of Missouri, Kathy Toelken of Alabama, Alice Poling of Upland and Bruce Tankersley of Tennessee. Stan is also survived by 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Stan was the fourth of nine children born to LD and Ola Tankersley. Stan is also survived by his younger brothers Nick Tankersley of Mission Viejo, Earl Tankersley of Texas and his sister Virginia Johnson of Florida. Services will be at Douglass & Zook Mortuary, 600 East Foothill Blvd., Monrovia: Visitation We dnesday evening, April 23, 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Memorial Service, Thursday morning, April 24, at 11:00. Family and friends are invited to gather after the Memorial Service for a time of sharing at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 East Foothill Blvd. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to one of Stan's special interests: Lay Renewal Ministries, 3101 Bartold, St. Louis, Missouri, 63143, designated in memory of Stan Tankersley.
