Gregory Wedner Obituary

September 25, 1950 - June 30, 2015 GREGORY WEDNER 1950-2015 Gregory Alan Wedner passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 30th surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the loving husband of 43 years to Maryanne Wedner, father to Jimmy and Katie, brother of Laurie Dominguez (David), son of Jacob (deceased) and Lois Wedner, uncle to Michael (Karina) and Kacey Dominguez. Greg was born on September 25th, 1950. He attended Taft High School, UCLA and Southwestern School of Law. For the past 14 years he has worked for Lozano Smith Law Firm and for the past 8 years acted as managing partner. His passions included spending time with his family, riding his motorcycles, playing his collection of guitars, listening to classic rock, and helping others especially mentoring colleagues throughout his many years of practicing law. He was known for his witty puns and keen sense of humor. Greg was a huge supporter of his friends in the Napa Valley Vintners and was happy to assist on the many trips his wife had the opportunity to be a part of. Special thanks to the Napa Valley Oncology Center and Napa Valley Hospice for their love and kindness. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 2nd at Tulocay Mortuary located at 411 Coombsville Road in Napa at 2pm. I still have the last voice mail message I received from Greg. It was about some potential work up his way. Every time I clear out my voicemails, I listen to it and his distinctive voice. I cant seem to delete it. He is missed.

Dear Maryanne, Lois and the Wedner Family,

So very sad for your loss. My brother Marcus spoke with Greg last year when our father passed, and really appreciated his contact and friendship. You are in my thoughts. Wishing you comfort and love.

I'm sorry this is late. I only learned of Greg's passing today while attending another colleague's memorial. I am so saddened by the news. It's an incredible shock. Greg and I had known each other for many years and met while he was conflict counsel defending my Department, LAPD. In my role, he and I worked together to defend the LAPD and also worked together on the alumni board of our mutual law school, Southwestern. It was actually at his urging that I joined the alumni board while I was still in LA. What a wonderful man and colleague. I remember most his wit, sense of humor and infectious laugh. Although when we worked together we dealt with very serious issues, we always found time to laugh about something. I will miss him and seeing his smiling face on his yearly holiday card. My deepest sympathies go out to Maryanne, Jimmy, Katie and the rest of his family. I grieve with you.

Maryanne: I was stunned to hear the news about Greg since I didn't know about his illness and he didn't mention it when I spoke to him last year around the time of my father's passing. I had such fond feelings toward Greg as a youngster...he was always so cheerful and even keeled and was always a great listener and conversationalist. Of course my parents were big fans of Greg's too. They thought he was a true mensch. I'm sure he will remain a shining light for your whole family for a very very long time. Best regards,

Marcus Wedner

This is tragic news for so many, and I'm so sorry to Greg's family.

Greg was such a mentor to me as a new attorney, and his teachings remain with me, daily, 23 years later. I didn't like law school much and was unsure about being a lawyer; but Greg inspired me and led me to love the law, which I do today. I know that I am just one of so many attorneys he affected in this way. I know that his family is suffering most of all, but his contributions to the legal field are simply extraordinary. Love, Blithe

Maryanne, Jimmy and Katie, I am deeply saddened by the news of Greg's passing. He was a very kind and considerate man, as well as an outstanding attorney. I was always impressed with Greg's easy manner and his willingness to share his legal wisdom with younger attorneys. He has had a great impact on many. My heart is with each of you on the profound loss of your husband and dad, and I send my heartfelt condolences during this truly difficult time.

The legal practice has lost someone who actually knew how to write. We are diminished professionally by his loss. We are certainly diminished personally. My thoughts and prayers for Maryanne and the rest of the family.

To the Wedner Family : I was just so sorry to hear about Greg's passing on June 30, 2015. While I knew Greg for just a relatively short period of time in professional circles in Los Angeles in the 1990's, he was certainly among the wisest and kindest among us, just a wonderful man. I know of no one who combined professional life and family life as well as Greg did. I recall seeking out his advice about this and that from time to time, and as so very busy as he always was, he unfailingly had time to lend an ear and offer a few wise thoughts. I send my condolences and very best wishes to family members as this enormous loss is absorbed. John P. Doyle
