Steven Weiss Obituary

Weiss, Steven Mark
December 11, 1946 - March 22, 2013
The family of Steven Mark Weiss, 66, mourn the loss of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, who we lost March 22nd. Steve was a literary and TV agent at The William Morris Agency for 35 years, starting in the New York Office and then the bulk of his career in LA. He was best known for his representation of Diane English and the packaging of the long running series Murphy Brown. But what he was known best for, as the hundreds of condolences state over and over again, is his gentleman's spirit, his honest approach to his work and his kindness and mentoring to all he came in touch with through this tough business, we call the Hollywood Industry. He is survived by his wife Amy Weiss, manager and Executive Vice President of Business Affairs at Brillstein Entertainment Partners; by his father and mother, 95 and 90, respectively, Louis P. Weiss, Chairman of the Board, Emeritus of WMA and wife Alice; by his three children and their respective spouses, Aaron and Rachel Weiss, Brian Weiss, and Lauren and Brad Lundy, and their mother, Rita; by his four grandchildren, Caleb and Ayla Weiss, and Cayden and 5 month old Sienna Lundy, and by his siblings and their respective spouses Jeffrey Weiss, Ann and Richard LaGravenese, and Evan and Gayle Weiss. During his five year battle with Myeloma, which he was in full remission from at the time of his death, he and his wife Amy were very proud to have raised substantial sums working on the yearly Gala for The International Myeloma Foundation. Sadly, a second cancer is what took his life.
A service will be held 1pm this Wednesday March 27, at Beit T'Shuvah Synagogue, 8831 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles CA 90034 and Shiva at 7:30pm Thursday at his and Amy's home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Beit T'Shuvah (http://www.beittshuvah.org/Donations) or the International Myeloma Foundation (https://online.myeloma.org/NetCommunity/SSLPage.aspx?pid=285).

Steve was an amazing person through everything he did. I knew him through HS but never got the chance to talk to him after that. My deepest condolences to the most honest and caring person.

I knew and liked Steve throughout HS and am deeply saddened at the news. My sincerest condolences to his family and close friends. Each of us touches others in ways we often don't realize. I have not seen or spoken to him since college but will miss him even so.

Steve and I spent hours together as high school mates. He, his mom and dad were so kind to me I felt like one of their family. We spoke about 7 years ago and thought we might see each other in LA. I never made it and now I am very sad. Talking again after a hiatus of 35 years was as if it had been last week. The adjectives others used to describe Steve are 100% genuine and accurate. Kind, gracious, and well just a good guy. I did not know his married family, but my deepest sympathy go to them and most of all to Lou and Alice, his parents.

I knew Steve in HS and it seems ,from the notes and obit that he never changed from the sweet person I knew back then. My deepest condolances to all who knew him.

To the Weiss Family: I first met Steve when I was an underclassman at Laurel Crest Prep, in Bristol CT (yes, that long ago!). One time, the two of us and a couple of other students wound up stranded in White Plains when the bus failed to show up. Steve was gracious enough to invite us back to his home while we all made plans to get back to school. He was kind then too to someone he barely knew. Then at AU, I tracked him down and ultimately became his fraternity brother. Years later he was helpful to my nephew when he was learning the ropes in the entertainment industry.
A good soul, a kind heart.
My condolences.

Dear Weiss Family - Your beautiful service touched all our hearts - as Steve did in his lifetime. Though we'll miss SMW forever, I'm sure he was there today in spirit - and for that, we are eternally grateful. Sending you much love and deepest sympathy.
