Bari Silvern Obituary

March 9, 1926 - August 23, 2013
Bari Silvern, 87 passed away on Friday, August 23, 2013 at her home in Los Angeles. She enjoyed a long career as a screen actor, director and playwright. Bari appeared under the stage name Bea Silvern in movies including The Competition, Young Frankenstein, and Breakin'. She also appeared in numerous television shows ranging from the "golden age" of television into the 21st century, including Dallas, The Rockford Files, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Playhouse 90, Little House on the Prairie, Police Woman and ER. She was prominent in live theater in LA and New York. Bea Silvern won several Dramaturgy Awards for acting in leading roles. She was also recognized as a director and producer, including the classic, award-winning production of Becket's Not I and the west coast premiere of Tennessee Williams' The Seven Descents of Myrtle. Ms. Silvern also received two Critics' Choice Awards for producing and directing Poets' Corner for public television. She is the author of three full-length plays including Effigies and numerous one-act plays. She mentored many young actors and writers and is fondly recalled by friends and family for her charming, funny stories and intense personal and professional commitments.

Bari is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, David, two sons, Steve (Louise) and Reid (Meg) and two grandchildren, Joy and Mark.

Her funeral was held August 26, 2013. Pursuant to her wishes, contributions to the Actors' Fund are welcome.
