MAXTON — Mr. Wilbert Knight, Sr.,74, passed away on Aug. 15, 2014 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the East Laurinburg Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Richard Tyson. Entombment will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery.
Mr. Knight was born in Scotland County on May 30, 1940, a son of the late Gilbert and Polly Ann Locklear Knight. He retired from Abbott Laboratories after many years of service and then worked as a security guard with Scotland Memorial Hospital. He served as a member of the East Laurinburg Baptist Church and the Gibson Volunteer Fire Department. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed reading and listening to country music, fishing, hunting, tinkering, caring for his canine buddies and gardening.
Wilbert was adored by many who knew him, impossible to forget with an infectious smile and lighthearted spirit. He took pride in his work and his relationships and had strong bonds with each of his family members. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife and a wonderful, ever-present father to each of his children.
A brother, L.W. Knight also preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife Barbara Grainger Smith Knight, his sons Wilbert Knight, Jr. and Jimmy Knight of the home and Stevie Knight (Dana) of Laurel Hill, his daughters Peggy Sue Smith (Robert) of Gibson and Lisa Knight Bender (Michael) of Laurinburg, his brothers Raymond Knight (Brenda) of Gibson and Ronnie Knight (Pat) of Raeford, sisters Marcella Grainger (Bill) of Wadesboro, JoAnn Knight of Laurel Hill, and Lillie Mae Smith (Terry) of Laurel Hill, six grandchildren: Chelsie, Brock, Miranda, Elise, Dawson, and Delaney, and two great-grandchildren: Brooklyn and Jett
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
