Barry McClure was a high school classmate, an incredible athlete, and an American hero at an early age. He was among the handful of Black students who were the first pioneers to desegregate the high school I attended in the early 60s. I remember him as a gentle spirt, a kind soul & a great example during a time when kindness was probably not at the top of everyone's agenda.

His death reminds me that we walk among truly heroic people and that many times we only see them as we see them...as just another person.

While people like MLK held a high moral vision and challenge for our nation and led with his life, it was guys like Barry McClure, a high school freshman at the time, who crossed fearful and invisible lines to show us that human reconciliation, love of neighbor and conquest of fear is not only possible but extremely doable.

I think of all of those students and am humbled by them. May their kind increase! RIP, Barry...True American hero.

Gwenda,
Barry was a caring and giving person with an infectious lust for life. My fondest memory is watching Barry patiently help my 3 year old grandson learn the game of golf and how excited Brayden was to be with him. God Bless and Keep you always.
