Hugo Chavez Obituary

Hugo H. Chavez, 44, of Las Cruces, died Thursday, January 28, 2010. He was born August 06, 1965 in Canutillo, TX to Henry and Catarina Alvarez Chavez. Hugo was a retired Investigator with White Sands Missile Range after many years of faithful service. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus from Colorado and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and racquetball. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Hugo is survived by his wife of twenty-three years Catherine Chavez of the family home; sons Jacob Chavez and fiancé Cherish of Grand Fork, ND, Christopher Chavez and wife Tessa and Matthew Chavez all of Las Cruces; daughters Veronica Apodaca and husband Andrew and Mariah Chavez all of Las Cruces; parents Henry and Catarina Chavez of Las Cruces; brothers Nemecio Chavez of Los Alamos, NM, Henry and Albert Chavez both of Las Cruces; sisters Rachel Sierra and husband Ernesto of Albuquerque, NM, Jenine Martinez and Lupita Saenz and husband Tony all of Las Cruces. Also surviving Hugo are his grandchildren Anissa, Jayla, Ethan, Evan and Riley who will be his honorary pallbearers and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 02, 2010 at Getz Funeral Home. Hugo's memorial mass is at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 03, 2010 at San Albino Catholic Church with Fr. Don Adamski officiating.

Our hearts go out to Hugo's childern. You all were the "apple of his eye" he was a strong, but yet a very gentle man. God Bless you and give you the strengten to get through the hard days. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Chavez family. My memories of Hugo are of a Man that always had a smile on his face even when our work enviorment was suffering. Hugo had the unique ability to leave a lasting impression of joy on those of us that had the opportunity to know and work with him.

To the Family of Hugh Chavez, this is truly a sad day. Hugo was a great person and an exceptional Law Enforcement Officer. I remember how sorry I was when he left DASO to work in Center Colorado. He was a loss to our department then and he is a loss to everyone now. My prayers go out to his family, rest in peace Hugo.

Dearest Family,

Hugo, was a very special person who always had an infectious smile, even tho he could not speak when we met, his eyes always held that special welcome. My Therapy dog Jazz, would stand at the side of the bed and lick his hand as if to say, Hi i'm here again.
