John Heier

1915 - 2011

John Heier, 95, formerly of Lodi, CA. passed away on April 12, 2011. John was born in Hosmer, South Dakota on December 10, 1915. John moved to Lodi in the late 1930's. After a short stay in Oakland, CA, where he worked as a welder during World War 11, John returned to Lodi and purchased H & H Meat Co. In the early 50's John purchased Pure Sausage & Meat Company where he remained a partner, owner and consultant until the mid 1980's. While in Lodi, John attended Saint Anne's Catholic Church where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a past member of the Lodi Moose, Eagles Lodge, and Dakota Club. His roots in South Dakota always remained deep in his heart and in 1990 he purchased the family farm in Hosmer. John spent many years hunting, fishing, gardening and enjoying the family homestead, where he and his twelve siblings were raised. For the past two years John had resided in the Sacramento/Carmichael area.
John is survived by his son, Ron Heier (Marlene) of Sacramento, three Grandchildren, Rod Heier (Leslie) of Lodi, Elizabeth (Gary) Jackson of Tracy, and Katrina (Jay) Walkinshaw of Aptos. Five Great-Grandchildren, Allison, and Zachery Jackson, and Hanna, Jake and Emma Walkinshaw of Aptos. Two Sisters, Margaret (Omar) Barstad and Theresa Jarrett and his brother, Jake.
John was preceded in death by his wife Frances, a son Robert, nine brothers, Joe, George, Martin, Tony, Bernard, Adam, Phil, Mike, & Ray.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 and Harney Lane, Lodi. Private committal will be held on Monday, April 18th, in the Garden of Gospels.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 15th, from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, near Beckman Road, Lodi.
