C. Romano Obituary

Romano, M.D., C. Victor

C. Victor Romano, M.D. of New Smyrna Beach, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 22, 2013. He was born on March 23, 1928 in Yonkers, New York, son of the late Gaetano and Margaret (Onorato) Romano. In World War II, Dr. Romano served as a merchant sailor in the North Atlantic and later became a proud U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Korean War and later retiring as a Navy captain. Following his graduation from Florida Southern College in 1951 and his service in the Korean War, Dr. Romano attended Medical School at Loyola University in Chicago and, after teaching himself French, attended the Université de Lausanne in Lausanne, Switzerland. Dr. Romano married his college sweetheart, Charlotte Yvonne Talla in 1955. He was a well-loved and respected surgeon and physician in Yonkers and Pound Ridge, New York and was a true "old school" doctor who never left home without his medical bag and was known for rendering medical aid anywhere and suturing family and friends at the family kitchen table. Choosing to go back on active duty with the U.S. Navy in 1974, Dr. Romano rose to the rank of Captain and served with the U.S. Navy in Groton, Connecticut, Orlando, Florida and Bayonne, New Jersey and with the United States Marine Corps in Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Dr. Romano loved Ronald Reagan, New York Yankee baseball, sailing ships, camping and Atlantic City.

Dr. Romano was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte and is survived by his daughter, Catherine Storch, sons, Carl and Christopher, son-in-law, Glenn D. Storch, daughters-in-law, Elizabeth and Victoria Romano, granddaughters, Olivia Storch, Francesca, Sophia and Charlotte Romano, grandson, Benjamin Storch, sister-in-law, Sally Talla and his dear friends, Jerry, Lorraine and Michelle Pasquale. He will be missed. Rest in Peace "Bald Eagle" may you have "Fair Winds and Following Seas".

Dr. Romano, or Vic as he insisted we call him at our office was truly a patient that stood out to me. I work for the optimetrist he used and truly looked forward to his appointments. Whether it was sharing life stories of his family and how much he adored his children and grandchildren, gifting a unique wisdom to me, sharing many stories of his time in the service or of his career as a physician, I truly felt a connection with him. I know he is now with his wife, whom he talked of with admiration and love each time I saw him. Vic and I shared a birthday (60 years between) and the last time I had the pleasure of talking to him he joked "no wonder I like you so much! We're attatched!"
I know that seeing him on average, just one or two times a year, makes it hard to explain the pain I feel knowing he will never walk through our doors or share more secrets of life with us; but I just needed to let his family know how much this lovely man impacted my life. Imagine the lives he touched... Every single day. I will continue to thank God for the chance of knowing him.

Spent many mornings at breakfast in Dalton Farm with him. A wonderful man with a great personality . And also a devout conservative republican (Rare)
