NANCY SPRINGER Obituary

Nancy Ford Springer of Croton-on-Hudson, NY died on Wednesday September 17, 2008. Nancy was born on November 14, 1954 in Springfield, MA to Graham and Mary (Caney) Ford. She attended Holy Name Grammar School and graduated Cathedral High School in Springfield, MA. She attended and graduated from Trinity College in Burlington, VT and received her Masters Degree from Clarke School for the Deaf (Smith College). Nancy worked in various schools specializing in teaching deaf children and for the past 18 years she worked for the Parent Infant Program at the New York School for the Deaf in White Plains, NY. She was married to Gary Springer on August 28, 1982 in Old Deerfield, MA. After her son Nicholas's battle with Meningitis she helped found the National Meningitis Association and was responsible for legislation and awareness of the meningitis vaccine in numerous states around the country. Nancy was the life-force of her family and a beacon of happiness, compassion and joy to all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Gary, children Nicholas and Oliva and her brother Dennis Ford. She was predeceased by her brother Bruce Ford in July of 2008. Visitation will be held on Sunday September 21, 2008 from 1-5 PM and 7-9 PM at the EDWARD F. CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 41 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday September 22nd at Holy Name of Mary Church in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name should be made to the National Meningitis Association, 738 Robinson Farms Drive, Marietta, GA 30068.
