Eunice Stark Obituary

Stark, Eunice Marie

Eunice Marie Stark (nee Saxe) passed away on January 30, 2013, at the age of 91. Born on April Fool's Day, 1921, in Effort, Pa., Eunice was a long-time resident of Chatham, MA, and formerly resided in New City, NY.

An accomplished pianist, Eunice taught elementary music in the Spring Valley School District for many years, and later played piano in a big band, The Dreamers, on her beloved Cape Cod. Mrs. Stark was a graduate of Oberlin College and earned a Masters degree in Music from Columbia University. Eunice was also an authority on early American antiques, and with her late husband operated a shop and business for many years specializing in early Americana.

Mrs. Stark was married to her late husband, Whitney, Jr., for 61 years. They met while attending Atlantic City High School in the 1930's. Eunice is sadly missed by her sisters, Rev. Joanne Saxe and Sally Roik, and sister-in-law Lynn Singletary. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Victor Lee Saxe. Eunice is survived by her loving son, Whitney III (Marisabina) and her adoring daughter, Victoria Glass (William). Eunice is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Hannah (Jared), Samuel (Elizabeth) and Benjamin Stark, and William and Christopher Glass. She is also survived by her charming great-grandson, Jackson, and many nieces and nephews.

Family services will be private, and a Memorial service will be held later on Cape Cod. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or the Visiting Nurse Service of Cape Cod.

I am sad, Ma, that you had to leave us, and I will always remember the enjoyable get-togethers we had -- and those times we would sit shoulder to shoulder enjoying the crossword. All my love.

Mrs.Stark was our music teacher at the North Main Street School in Spring Valley, New York during the late 1950's. I remember a wonderful and kind woman who recognized her students' talents. I've often thought of her over these many years. Please accept my condolences and fond memories of a great teacher.
