Fred Hardman Obituary

Published by Lompoc Record on Oct. 13, 2011.
"Mac" Fred J. Hardman
(A.K.A. M.J. McMasters)
Mac was born Aug 3, 1929 in Los Angeles, to Mayme Elizabeth Hughes and Harley Lon Hardman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy (Lewis) McMasters,  parents and siblings Harley Lon Hardman Jr. and JoAnne Lilane Hardman and Betty Anne Hardman. He was greatly influenced by his maternal grandparents Elizabeth (Quiley) and Allan Hughs.
Mac entered the army at 16 in early 1945 under his brother's draft call, and served for two years before he was discovered. He was allowed to re-sign under his own name and served until 1949. He attended school at the Allied Institute of Technology and became a talented Tool & Die Maker, with a long career that included owning his own business "MJM Machining", and employment by CELCO Manufacturing where his company received an Academy Award for Technological Innovation in the development of the "colorizer" equipment used for a number of Disney Films.
He met and married the love of his life Judy Lewis Pike on March 15 1986, and was sealed in the Las Vegas Temple on March 16 1991. He was readily adopted by all the Pike family and loved having an "instant family" of four boys and 11 grandchildren.
Mac had many good friends in Ontario, California and the surrounding area, including special friendships with Howard Wescott and Scott Jackson. He had many friends in the Creekside Ward in Ontario CA, and the Lompoc CA Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He died Friday, October 7, 2011 at Lompoc Valley Medical Center.
He leaves four stepsons are Raymond D. Pike (Valerie), Robert L. Pike (Monica), Randall H. Pike (Cindy) and Douglas S. Pike (Julie). He was also affectionately known as "Grandpa Mac" to his grandchildren Megan, Erika, Tara, Nicki, Chandler, Dustin, Amanda, Emilie, Rebekah, Christopher, Aaron, Ethan and Jacob.
Special thanks to his Step daughter-in-law Julie Pike for kind and loving caregiving the last three years.  Our family would also like to thank Director Rebekah Villa Lobos and the wonderful Staff at Valley Haven Adult Care, and to his neighbors Freida Schaefer and Joanne Plo and friends Jeanne & Dave Grant who all have been a great help and comfort to the family.
Graveside services for Mac will be held at a later date in Lewiston, Utah with his family.
