William Pickerill Obituary

PICKERILL, WILLIAM HENRY "BILL" JR., 88, of south Louisville, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013.

He was a retired warehouse foreman for American Standard where he had worked for over 43 years, a member of Lynnhurst United Church of Christ, Highland Post # 201, American Legion, Fairdale Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Kosair Shrine, Moose Lodge # 5 and the Louisville Male High Alumnae Class of 1943. He served with the 13th Air Force as a ball turret gunner in 18 missions on a B-24 in World War II and was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5421.

Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, the former Billie Geraldine Clark, who passed away January 28, 2009.

Survivors include sons, Bruce Pickerill (Mary) of Yorktown, VA and Mark Pickerill (Diane); grandchildren, Amy Redington (John) and Amber, Rebecca, Jennifer and Chris Pickerill; and great-granddaughter, Catherine Redington.

Celebration of Life will be at 11a.m. Wednesday at Nunnelley Funeral Home, 4327 Taylor Blvd., with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation: 1-8 p.m. Tuesday.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the care and concern from the Norton Hosparus Unit employees.

Expressions of sympathy may go to the Legion of Honor of Kosair Shrine or the memorial fund of Lynnhurst United Church of Christ.

Bill, you will forever be missed. You were undoubtedly the best brother-in-law one could ever have. I always loved you and Gerry from the day we first met. Bruce and Mark, you have my sincerestly condolences in your loss. He was a wonderful father, husband, brother and grandfather. It is a very sad time for all of us. I am so very happy that I got to visit with him in June. I love you all.

Condolences to Bill's family. Sorry for your loss. My husband Edward F. Metzger,Jr was a long time friend back to the days of playing basketball in the Bethelem United Church of Christ League,at 6th & Hill. Ed passed away 8/14/2011, and know he will be their to greet Bill.
