Justin Poitras Obituary

Justin David Poitras
Boston Firefighter

BOSTON - Justin David Poitras, BFD, a resident of the Roxbury section of Boston passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at the Boston Medical Center as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was 31.

Born in Lowell on December 19, 1986, he was a son of Miriam Nieves Poitras of Haverhill and Mark and Sue Ann (Egan) Poitras of Nashua, NH.

Justin grew up in Lowell and moved to Nashua, NH during high school. He was a 2005 graduate of Nashua High School. Justin entered the United States Marine Corps upon graduation. He served four years and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, San Diego, CA. Justin was deployed in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Lance Corporal.

Following his discharge from the Marines, Justin enrolled in the University of Massachusetts at Boston. He graduated in 2014 from the School of Health Sciences with a bachelors degree in Exercise Physiology.

Justin worked as a personal trainer before joining the Boston Fire Department in 2017. He has been stationed on Engine 42 since completing the fire academy.

An avid athlete and fierce competitor, Justin has been playing baseball since the age of three. He started in Lowell's PYO league and most recently the Boston Jakes. He was an ardent cross fitter and member of Southie Crossfit. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, traveling, and spending time at the beach. Justin looked forward to his workouts. He liked weight lifting and entered many weight lifting competitions, placing 2nd in his last one. Justin strived to be the best in whatever he did. He always took care of himself from the inside out.

Justin was extremely motivated, kind, and respectful. He was very generous as well. Justin volunteered countless hours at the Boston Shriners Hospital helping in the burn unit. This year he helped Boston Firefighters Foundation to help raise money for burn victims by taking part in their Firefighters Calendar. He was Mr. January 2018.

Justin was outgoing and laidback. He was always willing to help people. Wether he was lending his ear to help solve a problem, or helping someone with a project. He was always right there.

Justin loved his family and his firefighter brothers. He was happiest when he was around all of them.

In his last act of kindness and giving, Justin's organs were donated to help save the lives of six people.

Surviving him besides his parents are his brothers and sister, Joshua Poitras of Haverhill; Jesse Lee Egan-Poirier and his wife Amanda of North Adams; Corrie Jane Poitras of Quincy; two nephews and niece including his Godson, Gabriel Gerard Poitras, Aria Jane Egan-Poirier, August Matthew Poirier; maternal grandparents, Ruth Reyes of North Chelmsford, Louis Reyes of FL; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
