DRACUT -- Michael A. DeVincenzi, 52, a longtime Dracut resident, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Michael was the beloved son of Aldo and Julia (Eliopoulos) DeVincenzi of Dracut who survive him.
Born in Lowell on April 30, 1961, Michael was raised in Dracut and attended Dracut schools. He attended Bishop Guertin High School graduating in 1979. Michael received a B.A. in History from Marquette University in Wisconsin and later received a M. Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
Michael began his 20 year career at Lowell High School as a social studies and psychology teacher, and then advanced to become the Social Studies Department Chair. During his tenure at Lowell High School, Michael was both a tennis and weightlifting coach. In 2003, Michael was named MVC Tennis Coach of the year. Tennis was Michael's passion. He excelled at the sport, making many friends in the tennis community through his teaching and coaching. Michael loved reading historical novels, enjoyed watching the Food Network, and look forward to going to work every day.
There were many important things in Michael's life but his family and friends were his priority. He always cherished time spent with his children. Michael was fun, caring and thoughtful. Whenever you saw Michael, no matter how busy he was, he always had a moment to stop and listen. Michael was one-of-a-kind and will be greatly missed.
The DeVincenzi family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Michael's friends, college buddies, colleagues, doctors, nurses and the countless others who helped Michael in his courageous battle. Your kindness was so appreciated and greatly acknowledged.
In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by his children, Brett DeVincenzi, Army National Guard of Dracut; Nikolas DeVincenzi, a sophomore at Dracut High School, Brittany DeVincenzi of Marlborough, MA; his granddaughter, Alyvia; two sisters, Gail Green and her husband, Tim of Lowell, LeeAnn Conners and her husband, Dennis of Lowell; a niece, Leah Green of Lowell; a nephew, Chris Green and his wife, Amy of Lowell; a great niece and nephew, cousins and many dear friends. Michael was predeceased by the mother of his children, Stacy (Kanakaris) DeVincenzi who died on April 21, 2013.
DeVINCENZI -- Relatives and friends are invited to his Life Celebration on Friday April 25, 2014 from 3 until 8 PM in the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 11:30 AM in St. Michael Church, Lowell. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Oh Michael, I just found out about this. I know, i am way out of touch. You were such a great friend for the short time I knew you in the late 80's and 90's as a workout partner at New you fitness. You had so many wonderful words of wisdom and you are one of the nicest people and was so caring to me. I could really sense your kindness and was really drawn to it. You had so many pointers in weightlifting, and always talking about and interest in tennis. And I remember the day you said that you were going to be a teacher and you worked toward finishing that fullfillment and I trailed off from your life as i tried to make my own fullfillment with my life and career. I am currently going through taking care of my wife and her illness and I hope to catch up with the past and friends someday and now i've missed connecting with you. I know I saw you once at a high school parent teacher night when we had a foster child that we were taking care of, then that was the last time I saw you. Goodbye old friend. Mike was my Tennis coach at LHS. I was recently converting some old video tape footage of our high school matches and was able to see him interacting with me. I can appreciate now, as an adult, the impact he had on me back then. Tennis is still a big part of my life thanks to the time, energy, and effort "coach D" put in with me during those years. I still think about him when I play. Miss you.

I’m am so sorry to hear your loss he was my history teacher back in 2002 we use to talk about sponge bob the whole class and laugh he had to have been one of my favorite teachers such a genuine nice guy I am so sorry for your loss he was a great guy and educator and left his mark on me .

So miss my cousin everyday. Remember our last get together at Dunkin Donuts in Dracut. Every time I go by there think about all he said about his plans for future once he beat cancer. Wish he was with me now to visit. Love you Michael miss u tons

I had the good fortune of meeting Mike when he was just 14 years of age. We were the best of friends. Me being older, I drove him to his junior tennis matches, and we worked together at the Raft in Lowell. My heart felt condolences go out to Mikes family in this time of sadness. Warren Cote

I was very saddened to hear of Michael's passing. I had the good fortune of having known Michael as a fellow teacher at Lowell High School. So sad to hear of Mr. DeVincenzi's passing - he was a great man and wonderful teacher. He always tried to make class enjoyable and make his students feel comfortable (especially nervous freshmen.) Gone far too soon, but he has left a lasting impression on many. RIP Mr. D.
