A. Moss Obituary

A. John Moss Beulah A. John Moss, 62, of Beulah and East Lansing, died April 22, 2010 at home. John was born March 8, 1948 in the Osteopathic Hospital in Traverse City. He grew up in Beulah and graduated from Benzie Central High School in 1964. He attended Central Michigan University where he majored in music and played in the marching band. Out of college he taught music in Mio and later in the Beaverton Area Schools. Following his teaching experiences he attended Michigan State University where he worked on his masters while teaching music theory. He later worked for Audiograph Productions in East Lansing writing and arranging music. In later years he worked for Hal Leonard Productions in Milwaukee where he wrote and arranged music for schools and colleges. The highlight of John's career was the opportunity to work with John Williams. He rearranged many of John William's movie scores for the United States Marine Band and worked with him in Washington preparing for and directing the Marine Band. John enjoyed his family, his many friends, cooking in the grill, holidays, especially Christmas and long walks around the MSU campus as well as his home town. He is survived by his sister, Diana Moss of Beulah; nephews, Fred Schubert (Jama), Adam and Eli Schubert; and niece, Leah Schubert; as well as many good friends from school and in the music industry. Cremation has taken place with all arrangements made by Jowett Family Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the music department at Benzie Central Schools or to a school of your choice

John was an amazing and devoted friend who would spend hours in discussion around the complexities of a beautiful piece of music or the simplicity of the sound of the Spring Peepers. Those conversations, his wonderful laugh, and his interesting perspective will be greatly missed.

A great loss to all musicians and music lovers. I spent many joyful moments with John over the years discussing all aspects of music. I'll truly miss his long phone calls touching upon the music scene here in Las Vegas.....and elsewhere. Ron Simone
