Russell Nash Obituary

Russell Harold Nash Owosso Age 79, passed away on Saturday April 24, 2010 at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, FL. He was born July 22, 1930 at Otsego, MI and began his school career in 1934 in a one room school house in Hopkins Township, Allegan County, MI. He attended Leland High School in Leland, MI where he was part of an eleven member graduating class in 1947. As a teenager he worked with his father, a commercial fisherman. Russ served in the United States Coast Guard 1947-1954, and was a 30 year employee at Oldsmobile, retiring in 1985. He was the recipient of two GM Life-Saving awards. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and MSU sports fan. Surviving are Betty, his wife of 27 years; children Steve Nash of Chassell, Ron Nash of Tampa, FL, Laurie Nash of Gaylord, Eric (Stacey) Nash of Hartland, MN, Rusty (Val) Nash of Holland, Sharon (Rodney) Anway of Williamston, Beth (George) Barker of Northville, Glenn (Kathy) Fuller of Humboldt, TN, Trish (Ken) Wallace of Perry, and Charlotte Marie (Emilio) Gonzales of Lansing; 17 grandchildren plus one due in September and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Alice Drury Nash and by his parents, Clarence and Anne (Strayer) Nash. Funeral services will be held at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home in Perry on Saturday May 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Fred Fischer will officiate with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Lansing. The family will receive friends at the funeral Home on Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Perry Sports Boosters at 2555 W. Britton Rd. Perry, MI 48872.
