I was very saddened to learn yesterday of the passing of Bob Peterson. I have many fond memories of Bob, but there are a few in particular that immediately come to mind.
Bob loved to Love! Bob loved to express Affection! The most memorable scenes are when I had the privilege to visit Bob "working" in the capacity of principal at his elementary school. I was too young myself to appreciate or recognize what I was witnessing. As I reminisce 24 years later, I'm quite comfortable in stating that Bob was not "working," he was Loving, and those few young faces I did see him conversing with in such a nurturing and kind manner, were so freely and eagerly reciprocating that Love, perhaps without even knowing. It was all about Love because, "this is the only place some have ever been shown any Love."
I developed a "habit" 20+ years ago, and continue to practice to this day. I shared many meals and much conversation with Bob at the "Furr's Cafeteria" on 50th Street. Bob always, always, had a dessert on his tray. This was "his" habit.
Bob never intended to consume the entire dessert. He only wanted, "just one bite." He only wanted just enough of that dessert to leave, "a little sweet taste in my mouth." I learned and continue to practice this habit from Bob. Thank you, Bob, for saving me the calories.
If you were only with Bob, and "shut out" from any outside media, you would never know anything "bad" or "evil" took place in the World (aside from a stock losing too many points). Bob wanted Love, Laughter, Happiness, and above all Forgiveness, to fill the atmosphere. Bob reigned as the RingLeader as he strived to keep himself and others enveloped in such an environment.
Finally, I didn't appreciate the significance at the time. I do now. Bob could, and would, claim and accept fault. I know this because I have first hand knowledge, via a conversation I had with Bob. Even though I was an "adult" at the time, I wouldn't understand the "true" significance of what it means to so comfortably claim fault, or say "I'm sorry," until much later into my adulthood. Thank you, Bob, for showing a "green" and "nieve" adult that, "stepping up to the plate" is not a sign of weakness, but a growth to one's Character. You gave me this memory without even knowing it.
My only regret is that I never did take the time to make good on my intentions of just "popping" in for a quick chat, during one of my many trips back to Lubbock over the last 20+ years.
Thank you, Bob. Thank you for the memories, the conversation, the guidance, and the Love you shared with me, as you so freely shared with everyone, Thank You.
Blessings and Peace to:
Mary, Mike and Keri

It was my privilege to be one of Bob's fellow principals in Lubbock ISD. I genuinely loved him. He was always kind, generous, and friendly. He had a great sense of humor, and I always enjoyed visiting with him. I just learned of his passing, and I extend my deepest sympathy to Mary and children. I know you all loved him very much and will really miss him. He will be missed by all who knew him. I pray that God will cover you with His love during this difficult time in your lives.

I also have nothing but good memories of Bob. He was great at helping others who were struggling with various issues in life, and his sense of humor (remember all his golf jokes?) helped break the ice with many of us who knew him in the fellowship. God blessed us all with his life, and he is surely watching us from the eighteenth green in heaven. Fore!
