Dear, Mr and Mrs.Burchfield, Carl Jr (Corky) and the entire family

My brother called me last night and informed me of the sad news. I spoke with Steven about 3 1/2 years ago when he informed my brother in Louisiana that his parents had been involved in a bad car accident. We talked for awhile and renewed old memories from our childhood. I met Steven and his brother "Corky" in the summer of 1969 in Lafayette, La. We were about 10 years old and forged a great friendship as young boys. The Burchfield's left the area in the summer of 73'? and headed for Texas. As a lot of friendships do, our contact faded in the years to come but Steven surprised me with an occasional call every so often to rekindle a friendship that never really died. Although I have not seen him or his family in many years, the memories of our friendship and his "winning" personality continue to live in my heart and mind as I'm sure it does with everyone that knew Steven. Rest in peace my friend, I miss knowing that you are no longer with us but are now in a much better place. I feel I have lost a part of my chidhood now that you are gone.
God Bless you, Mr. Carl, Ms. Betty, "Corky" and the entire Burchfield family. You will be in our prayers.

Much love from, Kevin and the Gerald family. Wake Forest, NC (native-Lafayette,La)

I last saw Steve in September '09 at our 30th High School reunion in Pleasanton. I hadn't seen him since our graduation, and was amazed to find that he knew my best friend and amazing musician Wes Day, who I met when I moved to Austin in '84. Wes and I recently phoned and spoke about him, small world, etc, and I was looking forward to inviting him out to an upcoming show in Beaumont. Steve was liked by everyone in our class, not the class clown, but sort of quiet and soft spoken, but always funny. I always gravitated to him as someone I could easily get on with and share a laugh about the absurdities of life. Seeing the many tributes to him by so many people, and from spending time talking guitars and motorcycles with him at our reunion, I know he remained the same very genuine and funny person he was back when we were in our teens, and that he had a positive impact on everyone he met. I'm very sad about his passing, but have nothing but wonderful memories about having known him. Hope we'll all meet again someday, where the streets have no name.

To the Burchfield Family and Friends: Steve will be missed, he was a good friend..

As we look to heaven
An angel we will see
with god beside him
He smiles tenderly.

God placed him here
for a job to do
He blessed us all
now his journey is through.

He rides the streets
of heaven above
sending down
his undying love.

In our hearts
he will remain
now in heaven
we'll see him again.

may god bless you all!

Steve will always be in my thoughts and in my heart. He was one of my best friends and I will always be thankful that I was blessed I knew him. We laughed and cried together in the good times and bad times. He had a smile that could light up a room. I wish I could have spent more time with him the last few years. To his parents, You raised a son that you can be proud of and he will be missed and loved thru out eternity by all. My families thoughts and prayers are with you and once again thank you for sharing your son with all of us. Billy and Tiffani Farrell

My most sincere condolences to Steve’s family. Steve was an amazing person!
I truly don’t have the words to describe the wonderful person Steve was. He was an anomaly, a one of a kind, a genuine high caliber, wonderful person!
Steve and I have been like Brothers for nearly 30 years…stemming from the first time we met. In fact, my Mother and Father loved him like their own son! I’m honored to be considered a pallbearer, and I will do my best to honor Steve and his family with the highest respect. No matter the occasion or situation, I could always count on Steve for his candor and honesty, and I valued his opinion with the highest respect. Actually, I could write a book about all the wonderful memories Steve and I shared; many would include other close “brothers” like Billy Stovall, Jeff Nall, David Sherrard, and a few others, but I will keep this in perspective and simply state… “Steve, I love you and will miss you for all of my earthly life, but I will see you on the other side, Brother!” I love you, and you will be sorely missed!
I love you Steve!
Semper Fidelis,
Kevin

"Words can not express for the loss of Steve Burchfield, but to the family there is a comforting word from the Lord in I Corinthians 15:54,57b - "So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and thismortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory." "But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." Death starts us down the hallway, not of time, but of eternity.

Steve, my friend, you were one of a kind. I spent most of the day laughing at things I remembered you doing. Whenever you showed up, the party really got going....I'm smiling now thinking about some places we ended up together. You made your mark on a lot of people, and you will be missed. Keesie and Betty and Corky, your son and brother was loved by everybody who ever met him; that boy's smile was contagious! take comfort in knowing we will all see him again, and that smile will again light up the room.

To the Burchfield family - There are no words to express the deep emptiness that Steve will leave in everyone's lives. He was that special spirit that never met a stranger and would do anything for a friend or family. To him friends were family. I lost a son in December and know your hurt and anguish. Just know that Steve helped me thru that time and his spirit is with you now.

Steve I can't believe it. Although I had not seen you in years, I still thought of you or talked to people about you about different things when we worked together at the Laminating plant. A person doesn't forget about someone that they worked side by side with for ten years. You was something else. You will be missed. To the Burchfield family, I am sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers. I pray that God will fill you with His peace that surpasses all understanding. God bless you.
