Evelyn Urbano Obituary

Evelyn Marie Ruminski Urbano, 73
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Evelyn Marie Ruminski Urbano, 73, passed away peacefully with family by her side on April 27, 2011, in Daytona Beach, Fla., where she resided.
Born in Portland on May 26, 1937, Evelyn was the last surviving child of 10 of the late Alice Gray and John Ruminski. She was a graduate of Portland High in 1955.
While raising four children, Evelyn worked for George's Deli in the 70s for many years. Later on she went to Pierre's School of Cosmetology for hairdressing. Shortly after Pierre's, John and Evelyn opened up Evelyn's Tavern in South Portland in 1986, working there until she retired; moving to Florida to enjoy the rest of her life. Evelyn's is now being run by her two daughters.
Evelyn was an avid card player, waiting for her next victim in a game of cribbage and other card games. She also enjoyed the night out on a bowling team hanging with some great friends, weekends on the ocean, and going to Cow and Peaks Island.
After moving to Gray, Evelyn would have summer get-togethers with family and friends.
She was predeceased by her ex-husband, John Urbano. She is survived by four children, John J. Urbano of Portland, Cynthia Billingslea and husband Cliff O'Brien, Deanna Terrano and life partner Donald York, and Beth Urbano, all from Gray; nine grandchildren, Mirrissa Urbano, Marina Urbano, Danielle (Ross) Toulouse, Michael J. Billingslea, Jennifer (Terrano) Johnson, Michelle (Terrano) Messana, Stephanie Terrano, Breanna Bozzuto and Joseph Viola-Urbano; six great-grandchildren, Owen, Elle, Samual, Emileigh, Evelyn and Caleb; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, on Saturday, June 4, from 2-4 p.m. A reception will follow at Evelyn's Tavern, 121 Sawyer St., South Portland (207)799-8505.

I'M FREE
Don't grieve for me,
for now I'm free.
I'm following the path
God laid for me;
I took His hand when
I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
to laugh, to love,
to work or play,
Tasks undone must
stay that way.
If my parting has left a void,
then fill it with
remembering joy,
a friendship shared,
a laugh, a kiss,
for these things I too shall miss.

Be not burdened
with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine
of tomorrow.

My life's been full,
I've savored much.
Good friends, good times,
a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time
seemed all to brief.
Don't lengthen it now
with undue grief.

Lift up your heart and
share with me.

God wanted me
Now He has set me free!

Cindy,Beth,Deanna, John & families. So sad to hear of Aunt Evie's passing. She was indeed a wonderful, beautiful woman who always made us feel welcome no matter where we happened to be visiting. Up to camp, in Florida & of course at the tavern. She had such a quick wit & always made us laugh. Warren felt lucky to have Ev as his Godmother. She will be truly missed. Our prayers & thoughts are with you all. God Bless. Love, Laurie,Warren,Zac & Rachel

Cindy, Beth and family,
So Sorry about Eve, she was an awesome person. I will miss her dearly, I will miss her ham salad sandwiches and her hamburgers that were better than Harmons.
But most of all I will miss her spirit. I loved how she told it how it was !!!

We only met Ev about 10 years ago but have shared some great times..many card games, lots of "cocktail" parties with Kool-aid, many pot luck dinners and just plain fun. She also shared her "camp" with us..again many memories and fun times on the lake. The story of the bird food-kool-aid being my favorite. My heart goes out to all of you. Much love, Sandy & Jerry
