Evelyn Fleurant, 86
BIDDEFORD -- Evelyn Fleurant, 86, of Biddeford, died on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Southern Maine Medical Center. She was born on Jan. 24, 1925, in Biddeford, the daughter of George and Rosa (Sylvestre) Poirier. She was educated at St. Joseph's School and graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1944.
On May 27, 1946, she married A. Victor Fleurant at St. Joseph's Church.
As a young woman, Evelyn worked at Reilly's Bakery and the local American Red Cross Office. With her husband and after his death, she owned and operated Vic's Appliance Center in Saco.
She was a member of St. Andre and St. Joseph Parishes of the Good Shepherd and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a foster mother for both St. Andre's Home and the State of Maine.
In the 70s she and her husband had enjoyed traveling with the Good Sam Club. Evelyn enjoyed knitting hats and mittens for the local church fairs. She also loved reading, bird watching and prided herself in her role as a mother and housewife, hosting many family picnics.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 43 years, A. Victor Fleurant, Oct. 27, 1989; her son, Robert Fleurant in 2000; three brothers, George, Joseph and Paul Poirier, and five sisters, Florence and Gertrude Poirier, Sr. Martha Poirier scim, Sr. Laurette Poirier ocd and Diana Bertrand. Surviving are four daughters, Cecile Rossignol and her husband Norman of Biddeford, Rachel Perreault of Biddeford, Jacqueline Maurice and her husband Kenneth of Exeter, N.H., Patricia Vintinner and her husband Dave of Murphy, N.C., four sons, Ralph Fleurant and his wife Michelle of Biddeford, Donald Fleurant and his wife Mary of Arundel, Charles Fleurant of Biddeford, Brian Fleurant and his wife Shannon of Biddeford; one daughter-in-law, Priscille Fleurant of Biddeford; two brothers, Maurice Poirier of North Carolina, Norman Poirier of Biddeford, two sisters, Beatrice Reardon of Saco, Lucille Duclos of Saco; 18 grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2011, at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at St. Joseph's Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Biddeford.
