RICK CANTRELL Obituary

Rick Cantrell Rick Cantrell passed away peacefully on August 10, 2011. He was born September 16, 1949, in Exeter, California, and spent many of his younger years in Oregon, graduating from Sheldon High School and University of Oregon. Rick moved to Marin County in 1971, then traveled through Europe meeting his future wife, Terry, along the way. They returned to Switzerland to be married in 1978. Rick will be greatly missed by his family: wife Terry, son Morgan, brothers Charlie and Garlin, sister Sharon, mother Betty, father Ted and many other relatives. He was a carpenter and enjoyed his work immensely-especially working on challenging projects. His woodwork was featured in numerous publications and can be seen throughout the Bay Area from Napa to San Francisco. Wine tasting was one of his favorite hobbies and he shared his knowledge with enthusiasm. Another favorite pastime was barbecuing oysters at Drake's Beach. Rick was passionate about baseball, playing while growing up and then playing and coaching adult softball after moving to Marin. His baseball talents came in handy again during the several years he coached Morgan's teams. He was a devoted dad and Morgan was his pride and joy. The 49ers and Giants were his teams-he rejoiced in the years of Joe Montana and Steve Young and last year's World Champion Giants. Terry:

We have not met but Rick did several projects at our house. We just learned from Mike of his passing and send our deepest condolences. The integrity as well as quality of his craftsmanship was evident in everything he did. We also enjoyed his intellect and keen sense of humor. Every day we are enjoying the fruits of his efforts. With sympathy, Susan Clark and Phil Sisson

Terry, I am very saddened to see this, and sorry to say that I just found out. He will be sorely missed. Rick was a great guy, and I am honored to have known him. I think about playing softball with him all the way back to the 70s, with Tom out at White's Hill, and now with them both gone. I remember how excited he was heading off to Switzerland when you guys got married, and the thrill of you guys having Morgan. Drinking Silver Oak at the releases with Rick and Jeff, and sitting in your house doing the same, or down to the Left Bank for lunch. I remember when he caught the foul ball at Candlestick when we were sitting together right behind home plate (hey, Rick, that as MY ball!). Going over to Tom's for a BBque, at Tom's invite, and then Tom would call at the last minute and ask Rick to pick up some steaks on the way over, and don't forget the wine, and the salad, and the.... And Rick would just laugh and say that was Tom. We'll miss you Rick. Phil
