Andrew S. Placzek

Andrew S. Placzek, 96, formerly of Chicopee Falls, died August 7th in Mielec, Poland. Born February 14, 1919 in Bloomsburg, PA, of Stanley and Karolina (Guzik), he spent his early years in Poland. He returned to Yonkers, NY in 1937. He married Michaeline Gwozdz of Chicopee Falls in 1942 and together they raised five cherished children. Michaeline passed away in 1992 just shy of celebrating fifty years of marriage. He leaves his loving wife Bernice Taraszka and her family of Mielec, Poland. He is survived by his son Paul and wife Eleanor of Agawam, daughter Barbara Swanson and husband Ken of Westfield, son David and wife Elizabeth of East Longmeadow, daughter Mary Lynn Shibley and husband Bill of Westfield and his daughter-in-law Debra of Chicopee. He was predeceased by his son Michael. He leaves his beloved grandchildren, Karen, Christine, Mark, Jennifer, Andrew, Michael, Lauren, Stephanie, Alexandra, David, Adam, Kate Lynn and Brett. He also leaves thirteen great grandchildren. He leaves his sister Anna Lipur of Poland. He treasured many nephews and nieces. Three brohters and three sisters predeceased him, Michael, Joseph, Bruno, Suzanne, Mary, and Stella. He was a machinist by trade and worked for Westinghouse in Springfield and Digital in Westfield. He also owned and operated Placzek Florist and Greenhouses in Chicopee with his wife Michaeline. He was a principal operator in his children's business, Annie's Tree Farm in Chicopee. Funeral arrangements will be in Mielec, Poland. The family is planning a private memorial Mass. In memory of Andy, the family asks that an act of random kindness be shown to his fellow man or charity of your choice.
