Robert Shurts Obituary

Robert George Shurts
Robert George Shurts, 87, of Macungie and Bolton Landing, NY, formerly of Berkeley Heights, NJ, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 with his family by his side. He was the husband of Arlene M. (Gardner) Shurts. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on October 21, 2010. Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, he was the son of the late George J. and Mary B. (Osmun) Shurts. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Robert was employed at Chevron Oil, Perth Amboy, NJ from 1949 until retiring in 1985 as district sales manager. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allentown. He was a past President of the Lehigh Alumni Club of New England and past President of the Lehigh Alumni Club of Central New Jersey. In 1998, Robert received the Lehigh University Outstanding Alumni Award. Survivors: Wife; daughter, Lynn wife of George Ged McGrann of Wexford, sons, Douglas husband of Peggy Shurts of Basking Ridge, NJ, Wayne husband of Debra Shurts of Long Valley, NJ; 9 grandchildren. Services: Funeral Service 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th & Hamilton Sts., Allentown. Call 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Committal Service 11 a.m. Saturday at the Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Stewartsville, NJ. Contributions: Memorial contributions may be made in Roberts memory to the Shurts Family Endowment Fund at Lehigh University, Lehigh University Advancement Office, 27 Memorial Drive West, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
