GRACE ARATA Obituary

April 16, 1918 ~ October 29, 2010

Grace Arata, our beloved mother passed away October 29, 2010 in Chowchilla, California, with complications from cancer and Alzheimer's.Grace grew up in San Gregorio on the Farm where she was born to John and Annie Caughey on April 16, 1918. She was the eleventh of 13 children. She attended Seaside School walking miles with her brothers and sisters.

November 5, 1945 Grace married John Arata who preceded her in death in December 2005.Grace was devoted to her family, home and Garden. She was a dedicated recorder for the National Weather Service doing daily temperature and moisture for 40 years. She received an award for serving the longest period of recording in California.

Grace is survived by two sons: Gary, his wife Marie, grandchildren Lawrence and Laura Arata; Louie, his wife Linda, grandchildren Matthew and Missy Arata, Great grandchildren Seneca and Vashti, Lacey and Trevor Reese, Great Grandchildren Savannah, Aurora, Joshua, Sam, Breanne, Shannon and Joey, Grandchildren Amanda, Ben, and Alissa Arata, and a great granddaughter Lilly Rose Pike.

Grace had an avid interest in the space program, stars and constellations. She loved history, and read articles from the Encyclopedia Britannica. Grace considered voting in an election an honor and duty to her country. She kept chickens and for years sold eggs, delivering them to Pescadero and Half Moon Bay. Grace made the best Loganberry jam.

Grace's daily routine included listening to Christian Radio and reading her bible. Her faith sustained her throughout her life. "Grace was the nicest, most patient and kindest person I have ever known." "She will be remembered with love."
