Mort Schorr was born on August 10th, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, and passed away peacefully on May 15th at age 87. He was a long-time resident of San Jose and Cupertino.
Born, Francis Mortimer Schorr, he was the 4th of five children born to Samuel and Nettie Schorr. Mort was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Kenneth, Ruth, and Bernard, and is survived by his sister Arleen.
Mort is survived by his children Wayne, Amy, Sam (Priscilla), Fred (Mary), and Andy (Jean), his grandchildren and great- grandchildren, including those of his late wife of 20 years, Hedy. He had many cousins, nieces and nephews that were also very special to him.
Mort was a WWII veteran, and attended San Jose State University where he played basketball for 4 years while gaining his teaching degree in the process! He was proud to play on SJSU's first nationally-ranked basketball team as well as their first-ever NCAA basketball tournament team.
Mort taught elementary school for 40 years in the Sunnyvale School District where he also served as president of the Sunnyvale Educators Association. He was a Willow Glen Little League coach and a teacher of religion at Temple Emanu-El in San Jose. Always a teacher, Mort loved the art of teaching regardless of subject or stage.
Upon retirement, Mort enjoyed tennis, golf, travel, and playing poker and bridge with his friends. Mort enjoyed attending the theater and was a life-long supporter of the arts. He was an avid follower of SJSU Spartan Athletics, a past president of the Order of Sparta, and attended many SJSU football and basketball games. He taught tennis to disabled adults and children through Sunnyvale Parks and Recreation. Mort enjoyed being a member of the South Bay Blue Star Moms, a Moose Lodge member and he also served on the board of the Northpoint Homeowners Association.
Mort was a devoted friend to many. If you were a friend of Mort's you were a friend forever. He held his family in the highest regard and in turn Dad, Papa, and GG was greatly loved! Papa would gladly be at any and every event for his grandchildren and left a great legacy of love and support for them.
We would like to thank Sunny View Manor and Hospice for giving Dad the best of care. We are forever grateful for your services.
Dad was very charitable and giving to many organizations and causes during his lifetime. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Mort, please consider making a donation to the cause or charity of your choice.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose at 11:30am on Thursday May 22nd. Reception to follow at Three Flames restaurant 1547 Meridian Ave, San Jose, CA 95125.

Mort will always be remembered for all his wonderful contributions to help others. I will always remember working with him in his third grade classroom and our trips to San Juan Bautista with my VW bus and others too. So blessed to have known him.

You have my deepest sympathy, Frances (as he asked me to call him late in our relationship) was always a warm wonderful man. Over the years I came to know Hedy and the whole family through his eyes. Mr. Schorr was one of the 'cool' Dads when we were growing up, his intensity was always tempered with humor and wit.
He had a great journey and fostered that in his children, who are having wonderful journeys of their own. RIP Mort, good job.

As a niece to my Uncle Morty I have only the fondest memories of our child hood with our cousins ,the Schorr's. My family, 4 of us children, and Mom and Dad traveled to San Jose from Eureka, every summer for our long anticipated vacation with the Schorr's. It was just minutes after we arrived from our long journey that Uncle Morty had us out the door, across the street, to Willow Glen Park, for athletic games and fun. Uncle Morty lead the pack of my five cousins and us, ( we were four of the clumsiest and un athletic kids.). Uncle Morty was always patient with us, though. We returned home, from our day of fun at the park, to find our Auntie Kay making her famous Matzah Bry..
All the Bar Mitzvahs celebrations will remain with me for ever. Then, finally our cousins moved to Eureka so Uncle Morty could finish at Humboldt University to finish some College specialities. We had the best of times, with so many fun days and also days we got into quiet a bit of mischief.My Aunt Kay was the closest relative, my Mother ever had, living. My Mother had no siblings so she grew up as a so called " sister" to my Aunt Kay. That made the bond to the Schorr's that much tighter. Our Uncle Morty, Aunt Kay and my cousins have remained close and supportive relatives to this day.
To all my dear cousins, Wayne, Sam, Fred, Andy and my Auntie Kay, I know you have wonderful memories which will help your healing process.
I will never forget my Uncle Morty and will miss his great smile and his wonderful contribution to my life as long as I live. Love cousin Karen

I will miss Mort. We spent time together at Parkinson's exercises and I played tennis and bridge with him. He was a good and caring man.

85 YEARS OF MEMORIES .WHERE TO BEGIN .RAISED BY A WIDOWED MOTHER SINCE AGE 5 WE WERE THE YOUNGEST OF FIVE HE WAS CALLED "PEE WEE" . WONDER WHO ELSE REMEMBERS THAT.? MY BROTHER WAS SPECIAL INDEED .DROVE ACROSS COUNTRY IN A TRAILER WITH FIVE YOUNG CHILDREN TO OFFER SUPPORT TO ME DURING MY DAUGHTER'S HEART SURGERY.
