Walter Gloistein Obituary

Walter W. Gloistein, (Jr.)

Resident of San Bruno

Passed away in San Bruno, age 79. He was the best friend and loving husband of Mary Jane Gloistein of San Bruno for 46 years. He was the devoted father of the late Daniel J. Gloistein; Nancy J. Burns (Brian); Mark A. Gloistein (Kelly); Katharine M. Sullivan (Steve); and loving grandfather of Meghan and Erin; Stefanie and Brittany; Nathaniel and Liam. His sister, Barbara L. Regan, pre-deceased him. He had many cousins, nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Walt was a native San Franciscan, born to the late Walter W. (Sr.) and Emilie M. Gloistein, who graduated from St. Anne's G.S., St. Ignatius H.S., and received his BS and MA from the University of San Francisco. He had celebrated his 50th graduation anniversary at both S.I. and at U.S.F. Early on he worked for the American Trust Company. Later, he was a clinical laboratory technologist, a high school science teacher, a high school counselor, a vice-principal and a retired Principal of Westmoor High School. He was a lifetime district PTA honorary award member. Walt was a C.C.D. high school teacher and principal of St. Robert's high school C.C.D. and a school board member of St. Robert's parish school. He coached boys little league baseball in San Bruno and ladies basketball in the S.F. Industrial League. Walt was a Korean War vet. He was a past president of San Mateo Men's Golf Club, a California Golf Club member and past Seniors' Chairman at CGC. He had uniquely aced all four of the par three holes at CGC among six overall. He thoroughly enjoyed his hobbies including golfing, gardening, remodeling, reading, genealogy, cross-words and computers. With his son, he had successfully identified eleven generations of one part of his family tree. Walt especially treasured his great family and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 5th at 10:30 AM at Saint Robert's Catholic Church, Oak Avenue and Crystal Springs Road in San Bruno. Committal will follow at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno. Memories and Condolences
for Walter Gloistein

Not sure what to say?

October 12, 2010

To the Family of Mr. Gloistein,
I offer my sincere condolences on the loss of your father. I was so sad to hear of his passing. I was a student in his biology and physiology classes at Terra Nova from 1960-65. He was a wonderful person and a very special role model. He was such a kind man. I am very sorry that I didn't get to visit him before he passed. It was my intention to do so. I hope your loving memories of your time with him make you smile even as you grieve.
Most sincerely,
Jeanie Rogers Barnhart

Hi,
You don't know me but I was a student during the time Mr.Gloistein was a teacher at Terra Nova. I am so sorry for your loss and having just lost my dad three years ago, I know the emptiness one feels when you lose a loved one. It does get better as the years go by and I pray that you will always remember the good things that you did while he was a part of your life as that will help you get through the first two years.
I pray that the Lord will give you the strength to get through the next few days and many days there after.
Sincerely,
Bunny Gleason

Mr. Gloistein, along with Mr. Walsh, were my favorite teachers throughout our four years at TN. The reason both these wonderful educators were so admired is because their compassion, respect and caring for their students and the educational process was so evident in their classrooms.
Mr. Gloistein was a wonderful teacher. I've thought and spoken of him countless times since school. His impact will stay with me.
